Funny, seemed to me like his running game, upon which he depended all year, got stuffed for 78 yards by a more physical team, and the only reason he had a chance was because of turnovers and Will Rogers’ often poor pocket awareness.
Congrats on the win. State had a good team this year, which you would expect in year 3 with Leach. It was one of his better career coaching efforts, IMO. He had a consistent running game all season and State turned in a solid defensive performance Thursday.
Turnovers and the pocket awareness might have a bit to do with the Rebels' defense, which played a good game. What baffled me in that game is why Ole Miss didn't go over the top more on State's defense. It was clear State was selling out on defense to stop the run (prudent strategy considering what Ole Miss likes to do), but we really didn't take many downfield shots. I'm not sure that Charlie Weis, Jr. has a future in Oxford. It'll be interesting to see.

PLease explain to me how Ole miss is in a "rebuilding year" in year 3 under Kiffin?!?
Top 7 offensive scorers from last season were gone, along with both coordinators.

Ole Miss playing its soft opening schedule
The team definitely looked like they had no answers for LSU and Kiffin's distractions probably cost them the egg bowl.
I would normally opine that Kiffin "learned his lesson from this and will be better prepared for scenarios like this in the future", but it is Lane we're talking about.

I agree that our running game got stuffed, but if Kiffin kicks that field goal in the second half, we win the game regardless of us failing a 2-pt conversion. That game could have gone either way.
If Kiffin kicks that field goal, the game would have played out differently because the circumstances would have been different. And State still likely would have won because they were the more physical team and was dominating both lines of scrimmage.

I'm sure it isn't. We were ahead by double digits in the LSU game, but as we saw several times this season, our defense needed to make a stop or we rolled the dice on offense and it didn't work.
Agree that distractions cost at least the Egg Bowl, and maybe Arkansas, although winning in Fayetteville isn't easy under any circumstances.

But yes, they did not look as well prepared as they did in the first half of their other last 5 games.

Ole Miss made it to the Sugar Bowl last year but they were in a rebuild this year? Yea, OK. Whatever helps you cope with that disastrous finish.
This is what Ole Miss lost from last years team: top 7 contributors on Offense and top 3 tacklers off the defense. This year we had the 2nd most freshman snaps in the SEC. So yeah dude that would require “rebuilding”.

That's like... exactly the scenario of a "rebuilding year" in the following season for programs like Ole Miss. And all things considered, I'd say it was a pretty decent year for them given their preseason expectations.

Rebuilding Year
I can count on no hands how many times I heard "rebuilding year" from the rebs, prior to Thursday, but y'all have sure made up for lost time over the weekend.

Not for Ole Miss. They've been reminding us about it since week 1.

In this new era, most years are "rebuilding years" for most teams. Or did you forget about the portal?

One of these is not like the others.
(For the slow folks, it’s ole Miss.)

Not a bad year for Ole Miss. win your bowl and you probably finish ranked in the 22-24 range

Teams like LSU and Ole Miss flipped significant parts of their rosters over.
About 45% of LSU's scholarship players weren't on the team last year including a ton of starters.

Would be nice to see them overachieve for once.

We got lucky with our portal pickups. They won't always work out this well.

One myth I think there is about the portal is you can just throw a box of parts together and make a team. These things take a bit to gel.
This. I mean you can get lucky and have a transfer start instantly producing, plenty of examples of that, but imo overall it still takes time.

I'm not trying to shite on your parade but I could post numerous links of your fans on here that never mentioned "rebuilding year" during your soft schedule. All I kept reading was "you can't stop the Lane train" and how you might get to Atlanta etc etc.
Your fans also bragged about Kiffin owning the transfer portal and how great you guys would be.
And weeks before the Egg Bowl your fans were pretty cocky. Most on here tried to remind your fans that you had not played anyone and that the back end of your schedule would bring you down to earth. Rebuilding year my arse.

Post of the day. Leach even commented on this subject weeks ago and said the portal can help plug some holes but that he believed in recruiting HS players because you can mold them into your system while developing them over the long term.
He also mentioned that the kids he recruits are mostly from Mississippi and that they understand the Egg Bowl rivalry and play with passion vs a heavy portal out of state recruiting who might not have same passion.
