I hate to but I'll go with Miami. When your coach is only famous for Yaw Yaw, that's a problem.

Overall we played a TON of freshman last year, which you dont seem to mention anywhere, all those guys are back:

quote:

a lack of depth on DL

Meh, not really, we are better off this year than last, when we rotated a handful of guys who never played before like Logan, Farrell, Thomas.

This year we are rotating those guys again after their freshman season and adding a big time guy in Shelvin to the rotation. So, again, "Depth" likely better overall this year than last, and the starting group unquestionably should be a step up.

quote:

there is still exactly one good experienced SEC quality linebacker on the roster

K'Lavon Chaisson played a good bit with Key out last year, had 27 tackles for a true freshman. Former 5-star.

Phillips and Taylor were co-starters with Donnie Alexander missing time last year as true freshman, they had 50 tackles, both former 4-stars.

Divinity/Thornton combined for 25 tackles last year at OLB. They will play opposite of Chaisson. Both were former 4-stars.

There's talent and some experience everywhere here.

quote:

The entire secondary is a work in progress.

This is just a gigantic stretch. We return both starting safeties, Battle (61 tackles) and Delpit (60 tackles). We are also simply stacked with safeties right now, great depth there.

Greedy Williams, arguably the best returning corner in the SEC, is back. The question remains who plays opposite of him, and who plays nickel. But hey, we are DBU and always seem to put some great guys out there. nobody hear of greedy Williams before last year, it's time for people to probably find out about Vincent, Kirklin or Fulton (sat out last season).

QB

Will be figured out in fall.

quote:

to OL

Return 3/5 starters, so not exactly a rebuild there. 2 true freshman came along quite nicely as starters last season in Ingram and Charles.

quote:

to freshmen receivers

Huh? Is this because we got a big WR class? We have plenty of upper classmen WRs and added Giles as a TTU transfer who was huge for them. He's already earned the #7 jersey without even playing a live snap here.

quote:

can you think of one team in the SEC who would absolutely be ecstatic if either of the top contenders for QB at LSU this year transferred to their school?

How do you know anything about Brennan or Narcisse? They were both former 4-stars and highly recruited.

I don’t discount the points you made, and I am fully aware of LSU’s roster.

But look at your post with eyes that put question marks by position discussion. Just about every position has “if they develop,” or “should be better,” or “recruited highly ranked freshman,” type comments. Realize that EVERY team can do this. The problem is that a wad of question marks usually do not all resolve in a positive direction. One failure ...say OL pass blocking for a team with no big time running attack... will be exploited unmercifully. And simply listing a bunch of names who are on the roster does not constitute a clear eyed look at their relative abilities. Maybe the new NT will be great, maybe he will be average. The key word is “maybe.” And that word describes LSU’s situation in my opinion.

Obviously Miami is in a similar situation except that they return an offense that seemed to work last year. And of course you could say Alabama also has huge question marks at DL and secondary. But Alabama has an extraordinary set of linebackers and a proven history of replacing BFL draftees. No such history for this LSU coaching staff.

So the hope for LSU vs Miami boils down to faith in Aranda somehow creating a top quality defense and all the moving parts of an offense, including New QB and OC, working out well.

I despise Miami and hope LSU kills them. But I wouldn’t put money on it.

out of an LSU team that had played 12 games straight while trying to help rebuild south LA at the same time due to Hurricane Katrina. The team that beat the shite out of Miami in 2005 after a months rest is the team you should of gotten. But, congrats to you....it only took you 12 more years after that to accomplish that again

I have heard this excuse before. That off week we had while y'all had to play the mighty app state could have easily been made up by the extra day of rest y'all got before our game.

As for the 12 years, I wouldn't laugh at that considering how y'all are inching closer and closer to that yourselves. Case in point, I remember when the vols made fun of us for 20 years and look at them now, about to go past 20 years.

I'm glad an outsider said this.

On the rant you have to assume the most positive outcome in all situations and if you don't you're not a real fan or you want to see the current regime fail.

In reality some of our players will pan out and some won't. The majority of our offense consists of question marks. Hell our offensive scheme is a huge question mark.

I'm not saying there's not SOME questions, I'm saying you extremely over exaggerated many things. Which you absolutely did. I blatantly admitted we need to figure things out at QB and CB opposite of Greedy (Again, a good history at least here). Meanwhile you acted like our entire secondary is a gigantic question mark (huh, agian we return 3 starters there...) and we have the worst QBs in the conference which 1 has never even played and the other played pretty sparingly last year.

How is our QB situation obviously worse than a lot of other teams like Tennessee? Kentucky? Florida? We dont know really how they will play just yet, so not sure you can talk in such absolutes. Yeah, I'm sure a lot of teams would want a couple of highly recruited QBs on their team like Brennan or Narcisse and see how they may do. I'm not saying they will beast out, but my point is we have no idea how they will perform in year 1.

I definitely think our defense will carry the team this year, and I've said that many times, with all the unknowns about the offense. I just find it surprising you basically dismissed the DEFENSE too, which should be great, no reason for it to be any worse than last year's unless for some reason they cant find 1 CB to play opposite of Greedy. Heck bama found a walk on to play CB alright this past season

I definitely dont think this team is "obviously" our worst team of the last 15 years or whatever you said. 2008 definitely was worse on paper. Like with any year we have some questions, most of those on offense with a change of scheme, QB, RB, WR, etc...but that doesnt always mean they will totally suck either.

I've seen us win two Natty's (and play in three) in the last 15 years....how about you Dawg? Don't worry about us, we'll be just fine. You just finally got a dose of what it is like when you actually have to play Saban in a season. Oh wait nevermind, he cock blocked you in 2012 too. Welcome to our world.

That was one of the most blatant attempts at avoiding the point I have seen this week.

With that said, I also saw lsu get luckier than uga in 2003 and 2007. That luck is what separates lsu from uga in the pre bama/saban era. It's 2018 though so those days are long gone.

Does lsu get a mnc shot in 2003 if ou and USC are both undefeated?

No, which means you got lucky.

So you agree even though you act like you disagree. Who did lsu lose to in 2003?

We won the game that mattered In 2003 and 2007 just like Bama did in 2011. Too bad UGA didn’t in 2017 pussy.

I don't care what happens. I just want to see an LSU receiver trot into the tunnel and a couple DA U players roll out on stretchers.

Florida. Horrible loss, we really lucked up that year I tell yeah But, atleast all that luck helped us beat UGA twice.

We also lost to uf in 2002. We didn't get lucky like lsu did though.

Last year has literally nothing to do with this coming up year. We have a new QB. new transfers at D-line and at wideout, and a whole new offensive mindset. The hires of McMahon and other analysts shows that this new spread could be legit.
