This one was obvious. The whole program's hopes have been hung on landing Brown and him being a superstar in the SEC.

Cam Ward? He's the exact blueprint for what they'd want to do with Brown.

I wouldn't even care if i were an Auburn fan.

Hugh gave out NIL money to the wrong kind of players and he allowed the inmates to run the asylum like he did at Ole Miss. Those guys don't want to play at Auburn.

Like Savmban said, if you give the wrong guys the money, youre ahit out of luck. Easier for a new coach to cut bait and get rid of the malcontents and drama queens.

Cam Ward?

To be fair, Miami did not develop him. He began his collegiate career at Incarnate Word, then spent two seasons at Washington State, before transferring to Miami and playing his senior season before getting drafted into the NFL. He was a projected first round prospect before he even played a down at Miami.

Cam Ward was a multi-year college starter who was already getting NFL draft buzz before he went to Miami. I agree he improved his draft stock a bunch by going there, but I would not really consider that to be a case of developing a QB.

Can't think of any Miami quarterbacks who became starters for the first time at Miami and developed in recent history.

I get the sentiment. But, aren't you then left with having to replace them with a bunch of other "malcontents and drama queens" who also transferred out of their programs?

because they are leveraging the portal to do that which is the smart thing to do, get a proven qb in the portal for a year maybe two.

Which is exactly what they’d be doing with brown.

Modern CFB this is why the U is the premiere program in the state of Florida and the ACC

Isn't that precisely what Brown's trying to do? He's not a raw project by any means.

Auburn went 5-7 with a talented roster. Something was obviously very wrong with both the coaching staff and the players' attitudes.

Miami would be a better landing spot for Brown at this point due to the dearth of talent on fAU's roster. Plus, I saw that Toney and Coleman starting following each other on social media.

I'm sure some dead wood needed to be culled. There always is. But, hard for me to blame players for not buying in when the HC was out playing golf instead of game planning.

I think that’s one Auburn had to keep. Him leaving signals Brown is headed to Auburn and will be starting.

There’s been a lot of players declare their intent to hit the portal. 2 big names in 2 days could get some additional important pieces to hit the door that were on the fence.

It’s really hard on a new coach with virtually no time to get these kids to buy in on what he wants to do.

In fairness to Auburn, that was a brutal schedule. The Kentucky loss was definitely inexplicable (and is the reason Freeze was ultimately fired), but their other losses were to the following teams:

Alabama by 7 - Playoff team
Vanderbilt by 7 (OT) - Playoff bubble team
Missouri by 6 (OT) - When Missouri was still relatively healthy
Georgia by 10 - Playoff team
Texas A&M by 6 - Playoff team
Oklahoma by 7 - Playoff team

Four of their seven losses were to teams that made the CFP and a fifth was to a team that was good enough to be in the CFP. Missouri was a tough loss to be sure but occurred when the Tigers were still competing at a high level. Kentucky was the only truly WTF loss.
