Texas would be ok with being equal with the big athletic programs like Florida, Georgia, LSU, Bama etc. It's when you make the on the same playing field money wise as the Mississippi schools, Vandy so on they'll get pissy too bad that's how we do things around here and it has elavated everyone's AD for it.
I think you may be underestimating their arrogance.

This. Which means you have to bring in someone like Okie Light or West Virginia with OU, which makes it a deal- breaker. Yes, they are unhappy in the old SWC, but that's what they get for breaking up the Big 8. I see them more as a Big-10 target. They are as Midwestern as Nebraska and that would be a renewed rivalry.

2. Was referring to the states and not the university namesakes.

So how did Maryland get out of that again?
Never say never. Especially for Va Tech, which the ACC spurned for years.

What conference was that? Pre SWC?

Neither point matters. UNC is more joined with NC State than Duke. Bigger issue is SEC will not raid the ACC nor will they allow others to do so. SECis the ACC's "Great Wall of China" against the B1G.

Does the SEC want the Sooners?
The Sooners may be the next Nebraska. Both were major national brands in the Big 8 but realignment has been not so good since. Sooners have been in decline for quite some time and staying in the B12 will continue to drain them. Nebrska jumped but life in the B1G is still about OSU and UM so I look for the Nebraska brand to dwindle over time. Same will happen to the Sooners no matter where they jump to.
B1G, PAC, and SEC all have deeply established brands that will overshadow anywhere OU moves to. Best way to treat the Sooners is to play them yearly (border war game with Arkansas would be a good bet) to get the main revenue bump without feeding them out of the SEC pie for the whole year. The ACC 4 (Free Shoes, Tech, Taters, and Line Beards) all give the SEC revenue with single games but without the financial drain of adding them as full time SEC members. If the SEC is already in the sweet spot with these 4, why add the Sooners and go the other way?
Best thing for OU would be to set up border rival games in all sports with the Hogs until the GoR thing runs out. If the Sooners are media worth then you can evaluate their SEC value.

Only if the SEC wants to kick out a team. I'm tired of conference expansion at this point. 14 teams is already too much and has destroyed any semblance of conference unity with the setup they have going now. Plus the SEC will have to move one or both Alabama schools to the west or go to a pod system and end up destroying rivalries even more. It's just going to be an even bigger mess.

Do we really need to make the west more difficult

I like them right where they are, fading in the diminished B12. I like having the SEC brand to sell, and OU not having it

The GOR wasn't signed yet. Maryland leaving is what made that happen for stability.
The GORs have ended shuffling within the Power 5 for ten years. If the Big 12 expands its with a non Power 5 program.
OU is locked into the Big 12 for ten years and it's glorious.

Both OU and OSU (Ok A&M) were founding members of the SWC. They left in the 1920's.
It has been a long time indeed. Ironically, until the formation of the XII, TAMU had little history with OU. I assume Araknsas has very little history with them as well.
OU and KU would both fit well in the B1G together.

I think VT and NCSU are honestly our best bets.

You mean to the east? If that happened goodbye to permanent opponents.

Yes. Either them or Virginia Tech... or perhaps both as a package deal.

quote:WTF does that mean? UV and UNC aren't leaving the ACC for a multitude of reasons and Texas would go independent before joining our conference...couldn't tolerate sharing the throne with other elite programs.
