Does Strength of Schedule Matter?

In the title. Why would anyone play a tough out of conference game with it only hurting you in the modern playoff era? The rankings clearly show SOS does not matter? Furthermore, the SEC should break up and send Oklahoma and Texas back as well as Misssouri / Texas A&M to be back to 12 teams.
Also, championship games are irrelevant when Georgia get the bye without even playing in the SEC championship which gives them two extra weeks of rest and no chance of injury.
Thoughts?

It should.
In terms of the CFP, apparently it does not.

It should matter more than it does.
The current committee is trash and they have no idea what the frick they are doing. The people they are picking for these things make no sense at all.

Should it matter? Absolutely
Does it? maybe not
But if it doesn't then the SEC going to a 9 game conference schedule will be the death of the SEC. Should be going the opposite direction until / unless the committee commits to SOS actually being a big factor.

of course it does. SEC is likely to get 5 teams in, the B12 and ACC are only going to get 1
but there is a balance to it, too hard is as bad as too weak

The way it is measured and rewarded is completely broken.

It won’t matter anymore.
Not with a 9 game conf schedule.
And with the committee considering computer metrics that value blowouts vs bottom tier teams as more “efficient”.

Ohio State and Indiana laugh at the concept of an SOS meaning jack shite.

Strength of schedule does not matter anymore. If you are in the SEC or Big Ten, it means jack shite. Same if you are Notre Dame. It only matters if your school is in the Big XII or ACC

Seems like some here believe 7-5 SEC teams should get in ahead of 11-1, 10-2 teams from the other "power" conferences. Yes, we have a tough conference, but getting 9-10 SEC teams in the CFP, while making us all feel good, would also mean the eventual ruination of college football.

Unless northern teams and mountain west teams and Big XII teams want to have their own title and the SEC canjust have the championship game in ATL be their title

Everybody knows that rushing yards is the end-all be-all measuring stick for good football teams.
I mean, look at the NFL.

They use SOS to justify their rankings of the ACC and Big 12.
They use SOS to justify their rankings of the G6.
They seemingly disregard SOS when comparing teams within the Big Ten, SEC, and ND.

It should. It has very little impact, depending of course on the name of the program. If you are UGA and lose 2 you are a playoff team. If you are Vandy and you lose 2 you are a good program that had a special season and get well wishes for your Florida bowl game. The only way to level the playing field is to play an NFL style schedule and even then in some years some would be harder than others.

Show me.

Notre Dame is 9th so clearly it doesn’t matter one bit.

& you shouldn’t complain about how long between games if using 8 conf. games.

Your point is valid but putting teams that are not going to be competitive into the post season to placate University presidents is not making CFB any stronger or better.

You are right, it doesn't matter. In fact, I see no advantage to a team even playing their own conference games if they can get out of it.
Just line up a bunch of teams like East Carolina, UTSA, Memphis, Liberty, Sam Houston, Buffalo, Akron, etc... and be done with it. If every conference plays shitty teams outside their conference, no conference will have an upper hand in the rankings and everyone will have it super easy.
