Quite a few posters have asked why I created this thread and they forcefully recommended I should just leave.

Everything has changed. This forum has changed too. Participation at this forum is down significantly. My participation here is down drastically too. When I do come here it's not to read about football. I come here now to read about how politics is affecting football and football fans.

I'm dead serious about abandoning college & pro football (and all other sports) that have decided I have to endure their political opinions to watch their games.

College football has been a big part of my life all my life. I'm more offended by the politics than entertained by the games. I'm gone and have had no trouble replacing college football/sports in my life with other entertainment options and family.

Coward OP shows football matters to him by not getting himself banned. Not surprised.

Isn’t it funny how you can always tell how old somebody is as soon as they start throwing around words like Karl Marx and Marxism and socialism and communism as if all of these things are somehow the exact same thing. As someone who loves history, some of these people really need to educate themselves. Just because some tyrannical governments called them selves socialist or communist or follow the tenants of Karl Marx does not mean it’s some big scary boogy man. I think most of these people are more than likely religious and I think that they feel like if religion goes away then somehow it takes away from their beliefs and their comfort in the afterlife and I feel like they feel that, it’s being infringed upon.

Really? No sports for months of any kind and Sunday night Football was down 28% in viewership.

It was down overall for sure, but at least paint the whole picture. You’re speaking about strictly terrestrial TV ratings, which have been declining across networks and genres for several years. Digital viewership on the other hand is up drastically for the NFL even from last year (+55% on the Thursday night game).People are cutting the chord everywhere.

And for what it’s worth, just in terms of the strict terrestrial ratings, Fox’s marquee season opening Saints Bucs game scored its highest rating in that slot since 2016.

Every word of your post is offensive. It's filled with pejoratives.

Pejorative: expressing contempt or disapproval. Pejoratives are almost always used by ignorant people in offensive ways. Sinking to pejoratives to make a point in a debate is always stupid, bigoted, or both.

So you’re saying people feel like if their religion is taken away it takes away from their beliefs and they feel like their beliefs are being infringed upon? Astute observation. Astute. I remember when my bike was stolen as a kid. It felt like it somehow took away from my bicycle riding. I’d go so far as to say it felt like my bicycle riding was infringed upon. Little did I know I was just an ignorant old man before my time.

frick the NFL, & NBA.
Anyone putting pics on their
Helmets of criminals who raped
& robbed & Murdered yet NOT any pics of the victims or those who paid the ultimate Price to save others, I've no use For. I quit the NFL 10 years back. Now the NBA.

Ditto. Pro athletes glorifying criminals at the expense of their victims makes BLM a criminal rights organization IMO - and I'm against everything it stands for. I refuse to give it support or advocacy by watching it's product. I'm out of all college & pro sports that advocate for any political organization unopposed.

A tiny group of people (college and pro athletes), including SEC athletes, plan to advocate the BLM political narrative unopposed during games. BLM is not a social justice organization - it is 100% political. Google it. I will not allow young, immature pro & college athletes to dictate their political agendas to me, unopposed, as compensation for watching them play.

This is the SEC Rant - a forum dedicated to SEC sports. SEC athletes plan to force the fans (including everyone here at the SEC Rant) to watch their political agenda unopposed during games. Many of the SEC coaches have decided to back BLM. It is now impossible to separate SEC sports and politics. The athletes made politics a part of the sport, the coaches supported it, and now fans have to decide if they will stand for it. I will not.

I've been an Alabama fan all my life. I'm an Alabama alumni as are three of my four children. As a family we have decided not to contribute money, watch, or support Alabama athletics as long as the University allows athletes and coaches to advocate for political organizations unopposed during games.

Sports is no longer about healthy competition. It's now about competition attached to one unopposed political agenda. Competing political views are not allowed. That's wrong. And there is no fair defense of it.

You can also tell how young and clueless somebody is who chides "old people" for being afraid of the mean old Marxist "boogey man."

I mean it's not like Marxism is the single most bloodthirsty, destructive, evil ideology that has ever existed on earth.

I mean what's at least 100 million dead and staggering levels of misery, deprivation and torture to worry about?

Marxists and socialists just want to make things more fair.

And like making things more fair is totally worth a few gulags and a Holodomor and Great Leap Forward and Re-education Camps and the Khmer Rouge and La Cabana with Che and Robert Mugabe and bread lines and struggle sessions and liquidation of enemies of the people, and some purges and the Road of Bones.

Yeah. Stupid old people who are like TOTALLY religious and stuff.

You DO know religion is like totally the opiate of the masses, right?

We should like get rid of Old Customs, Old Habits, Old Culture and Old Ideas!

Pfffff....okay boomer...

THANK YOU for posting this.

People rant on about declining viewership but fail to take into account that people cutting the cord in masses has an impact on those numbers.

It (uga football) still matters to me as of now. But I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. When I see the names of rapists and murderers plastered on that Georgia uniform I am DONE.
