Serious response

In newspapers many football teams were called by the town name back in the day.

Auburn officially change the institution name to Auburn University around 1960.

This is the same as saying why did Arkansas name themselves University of Arkansas? Why not University of South Central United States?

You are named after the state you're in. We're named after the town we're in. It's the same logic...

Harry Rex. No one from that institution has answered the question which is on the table.
Ivy League or not?

The University of Auburn absolutely is Ivy League.

They are just shy when it comes to touting the greatness of the University of Auburn War Eagles.

It would be interesting if all the schools in the SEC were the town name:

Gainesville University
Starkville University
Fayetville University
Nashville University
Knoxville University
Tuscaloosa University
Auburn University
Baton Rouge University
Lexington Univeristy
College Station University

These would be the most Ivy League sounding schools:

Athens University
Columbia University
Oxford University

To be fair Vandy is just right outside the Ivy League schools nationally for academics. Not there, but still very close. There are only 3 Power 5 schools that out rank at least one Ivy League school, and those 3 are Stanford, Duke, and Northwestern.

Who cares. Our colors came from Harvard and Yale originally too. It’s not a bad thing to try and mirror greatness. Don’t you think it’s good to have the right role models in your life?

"Auburn" is a color, and not even one of the "school's" colors so it makes no sense. "Auburn" (the color) combined with "orange and blue” (not auburn), called "tigers” (auburn is not a color of a tiger), with a "war eagle" (auburn not a color for an eagle), makes it all weird. Alabama A&M was at least appropriate with emphasis on the "A" (agricultural). Maybe if ivy league schools named for colors Auburn could identify with them. Maybe if Harvard was actually named "navy" or something it would make sense. PS - "navy" is a color for "Navy."

Not if you begin a sentence with it ... Good god, I thought knowledge of English language was a requirement to even get into a college. My mistake...

You put the word in quotes, it is not supposed to be capitalized if you were referring to a color. If you hadn't used quotes, you would be correct
