Does Auburn think it's name sounds "Ivy League"?

Vanderbilt is legit Ivy League level
Did Auburn go with it's moniker years ago to try to at least sound like Vanderbilt?
"Alabama State" was taken I guess.
Why didn't they go with The University of Eastern Alabama? Like Southern Cal, they could have been "Eastern Al"
"Ole Miss" sounds more Ivy League than "Auburn"

West Georgia is taken, and I've been to a game there in Carrollton - nice place

This might sound crazy, but maybe it's named Auburn after the town it's in

Every time a recruit verbally commits to The University of Auburn, I imagine that school is probably Ivy League.
The University of Auburn is the Harvard of the South.

I hate to feed the trolls, but it is a cool story...
Referring to the institution as Auburn is actually a throwback to the late 1800/early 1900ss. Back then, most colleges and universities in the south were referred to based on the town they were in, not the actual name of the institution. UGA was typically referred to as Athens, Bama as Tuscaloosa, and Alabama Polytechnic Institute was referred to as Auburn.
I'm not sure if it is still on display, but when I visited the Bryant museum at U of A back in the early 90s, they had a ticket from the first Iron Bowl game played in Tuscaloosa (1895) and it actually listed the teams as Auburn and Tuscaloosa.
