Does anyone do less with more than Texas?

Why has Texas underachieved over the last 50 years.
The answer is a mix of politics, ego, money, and luck. In the interest of brevity I’ll focus on just one thing.
Honestly, you could write a book about our athletic department.
Texas has fired every single HC it’s had in the last 50 years, to include DKR and Brown.
It’s not that Big Money ego doners meddled in our program, but a single BMD REALLY meddled in our program.
His name was Red McCombs.
Perhaps you have heard of him. Car dealer, got his start as the youngest Edsel dealer in the country, and parlayed that into a dealership empire. Later went on to ownership of the San Antonio Spurs, and later the Minnesota Vikings.
He KNEW he was smarter than any coach.
Seriously, Red had his claws dug into football program. He considered it HIS. Those stories of BMDs making coaching decisions? It was Red. I cannot overstate how huge a negative influence he was.

You’d think the A.D. would meet him halfway and say you pick out where the money goes. In a nice way nod your head to his advice and as he leaves mutter “a-hole”. Then go to back to your desk.

Yes Texas A&M particularly during the the Jimbo Fisher era. Total bust

Has texas had the #1 class in the past 5-10 years?

You think very highly of us, but I can assure you that very few of us are Billionaires who owned multiple sports franchises.
But even if we were, I would give credit to aggy, because y’all have Buc-ees within your alumni base…
That’s big shite right there…

They can have Buc-ees, we'll take Dell and Titos

UTrans has lots of older billionaires and oil money. Not the younger generation though

Austin has the tech money as well. I don’t think they care as much about football as the oilmen but all it takes is a few wealthy tech bros to be die hard Texas alumni. $$$$

Die hard UTrans fans. Doesn’t compute. Your fanbase is as fair weather as it gets

That’s the nature of the beast. Doesn’t matter if a donor is a fair weather 30 year tech bro looking for publicity or a die hard 80 year old oil geezer who wants one more NC before he dies. A big check is a big check.

They are the BEST COLLEGE SPORTS PROGRAM in existence . They win more National titles per year than your whole conference does .

Nope. Can’t recruit in the Big XII. NOW we’re in a favorable conference
Especially defensive players.
That wasn’t the case 20 years ago…

Thanks for answering the initial question.
The answer is A&M.
Jimbo put a bad taste in peoples mouth and will take 2-4 years for donations to start rolling back in.
One or two good seasons from Elko will make the pain go away.

Neither A&M or UTrans have a good record of performance

You beat UGA the last time too but that doesn’t make you the better program
