At this point, I would say yes, they are a dynasty. By no means I'm I an Alabama fan, but it's how I see it.

All teams/programs that win consistently have some "luck" and bounces that go their way (ala LSU... remember?). There are several teams in the SEC that are close enough to Alabama in terms of talent and ability to compete with them every year.

And yes, all that rise will fall at some point.

As painful as it is to admit..

Gotta agree...

Have to agree, the "dynasty" tag implies a certain level of total domination that the Tide hasn't quite managed (this coming from a fan of a team they've beaten by a combined score of 98-14 over the past two years).

That said, here's something to think about: since the beginning of the 2008 season, Bama has played 69 football games. They have taken the field with a legitimate shot at a BCS title in all but five of them (2009 Sugar Bowl vs Utah, and the last four games they played after the 2010 loss to LSU).

That's damned impressive.

You'd seriously have to be supremely butthurt to not view this program as a dynasty. I'm biased because of how much I've always liked them, but the crystal footballs speak for themselves.

When you come away with the ultimate prize 3 of the last 4 years, you're a dynasty. What is it that people don't understand about this?

Nebraska is on the phone, they just said quit losing in the regular season. Not a dynasty.

Bama called them back. Said it was easier when you played 11 game seasons. Bama team has to play 12 game regular season and in 2 of the 3 championships they've played the additional game in SEC championship. And stop with the butt hurt "need undefeated seasons" crap. Bama has one of those too. In the SEC run of 7 consecutive championships, only 3 teams have been undefeated.

They are clearly the dominant team in CF, nobody else is close. Dynastic.

For the love of God, make it stop.

I think by "nobody else is close" that poster meant record wise during this current run. Certainly teams can play Bama close and/or win a one game scenario. I think that poster was referring to the overall body of work the past 5 years. If that is what the poster was referring to, then he's correct. 61-7 in the past 5 years with losses to the #1 team (2x), the #2 team (1x), and all loses coming to top 15 teams. No one else is close record wise.

lol yeah having that 12th game against a team from the Ohio Valley Conference really makes it tougher.

So it is an SEC dynasty then. Not a Bama one, I can live with that.

If this is a dynasty, then it's impossible to have a dynasty.

The days of national champions always, or at least almost always, being undefeated are over. There is too much parity among the larger conferences, and inside the SEC especially. With scholarship limitations and a host of other rules that werent in effect when Nebraska made their run, what Alabama has done is as much, or more impressive. If you don't see that, then you are blinded by your hatred of Alabama, evident by your sig text.

If you play in the SEC, it is going to be tough to make it out with no losses, period.

The fact they have been sitting at home hoping for teams to lose in November to get a shot takes away from it some.

That said what they are doing is obviously very impressive.

This year people are complaining about ND b/c they say the BCS is supposed to be about the 2 best teams and the ND clearly wasn't one of them. Last year the BCS put the 2 best teams in the game and Bama proved to be clearly the better team. You've got to let this go. the whole "didn't deserve to be there" argument doesn't work when they smoke you while in the game.

It is clearly an SEC dynasty. The conference has 7 consecutive championships. Bama has 3 of those 7 (43%). The entire conference - all of college football - plays under the same system, the BCS. LSU can recruit with the best of them. So can Florida. So can OSU and OU and Texas. Everyone plays under the same rules and under those conditions one team has clearly had a better 4-5 year run than everyone else. It really doesn't matter of some dude on a message board named polarbehr thinks it's a dynasty. Every non-biased person in the college football world is calling it that.

Agreed.

Last 5 yrs:

61-7 record

Last 4 yrs

49-4 with 3 NC's.

It's hard to be much more dominant than that for a consistent amount of time. Saban is as dominant as Bear was at any point in time so far. If he can sustain another 5 yrs of it, he'll have done what Bear did in the 70's. Maybe surpass it. This 4 yr senior class has a winning percentage of 92% and 3 NC rings. That's amazing, considering the talent they've faced every year in the SEC.

Might not be done either. Chance to win the SEC again in 2013 or at least make another BCS bowl.

3/4 NC
4/5 BCS games - 3 wins all NC games
2/4 SEC titles
49-5 since 2008 BCS bowl loss

In CFB terms, that's a dynasty.
