It doesn’t matter UCF talked shite before the peach bowl last year and Auburn still didn’t care about that meaningless game.

It can if used properly and if the team you are playing is close in talent. Games are won on Mon-Thurs. Not saturday. they are won in preperation. It can give a little extra film time, little extra pep in drills working on fundamentals. Using it on Saturday morning isnt as effective.

Then you have to have the talent to beat the trash talking team. Bama could talk shite about Louisville everyday for a year and Louisville still wouldn't be able to handle them.

The only thing it does is put the person saying it in a position to potentially look foolish.

Not so much during the games, but I think it can help motivate a team during the prep week.

Probably the most accurate answer, but some players definitely feed off emotion, too. I think the effect is often overstated, and, more importantly, the stuff that qualifies as "bulletin board" material is exaggerated.

I think for college kids it does. That being said it only gets you fired up for so long, once the 3rd and 4th quarter roll around they have probably forgot about it.

That’s a good point, but you’re also talking about probably the greatest competitor to ever play basketball.
I’m probably splitting hairs, but you made a good point sir.

I think it can give an individual player that extra edge if they’re being called out specifically.

Snell is the kind of guy that definitely takes it to heart because he’s the type that runs with a chip on his shoulder anyway. Should be interesting to see what he does with all of the Florida players that have run their mouths about him this week.

Yes, it 100% has an effect.

Its human nature, if someone talks shite saying your not good at something, (if you have a pulse) your innate reaction will be to prove that person wrong. Unless of course you are a beta like OP.

Yep, that's why his need for controversy was always so strange/awesome to me. He got in a fight with Steve Kerr at practice, for petes sake MJ just had to have that edge at all times

I guess it can vary depending on what is said or done but any impact it has on the actual game is probably pretty limited.

I mean it doesn't hurt in the prep, but we need no motivation for this game. This is something for the fans to make a big deal out of and some have.

UGA will be ready regardless.

I actually think this is a really interesting topic and I have always agreed with you: that bulletin board material was a made-up concept. Until a couple of years ago with Bama. I think it was like 2015 and the defense seemed to use any quotes as fuel that they could possibly twist around as an insult. It seemed the defense was extra mean and pissed against those teams that were chatty the week of the game, for the duration of the game. It might be more prevalent on a team during a dynasty run when it becomes harder and harder to find motivation.
