What should be weighing on your mind is what happens after Les' impenetrable buyout ends in 2016. LSU signed a horrible contract with him that made him essentially invulnerable as long as the buyout is in place. It ends after next year.

Seriously, think about it. Lots of Administrations, Athletic Directors, Chancellors or Presidents lean on coaches behind the scenes to effect change. Do you think Alleva, Alexander, or anyone else at LSU other than Miles likes the bullshite we see on offense?

Of course not. But with a clause or buyout like the one Les has-which is absolutely the LSU Administration's Fault, and partly why none of them are still employed by the University-he can afford to tell anyone who doesn't like it to kick rocks.

So we suffer in not-so-silence knowing that Les gonna Les until we regain leverage after next season. That's when I expect to see some tectonic plate shifting and glaciers to melt with respect to how Les does what he does on Offense.

Yet considering all of that relative impotence in terms of our ability to move our program's philosophy forward at the pace of the rest of the conference, we are still bitch slapping your team up and down the field each year like a disrespectful, petulant, sassy mouthed, red headed stepchild.

We are as declined as we are going to get, and you still can't lay a glove on us.

To paraphrase the famous words of the iconic Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the cinematic triumph that is Top Gun...

Spirit of Aggieland...your Aggies STINK...

Is there anything more pathetic than a good not great large public university playing the academics card? I think not.

dayum! this LSU vs aTm thang is getting out of hand!

Just look around LSU -- aTm is a gay yell leader with too much money. LSU is a long time, kick arse SEC school with the ghost of Billy Cannon and the Chinese Bandits. Ignore them, they will go away...they always have -- just ask UT

Yall are still playing under the coach who won you a national title and presided over more than half of LSU's golden age. I know you don't want to talk to me anymore, but I have to warn you that if you think that is as bad as LSU football will get in your lifetime either you will have a short life or one with major disappointment in it at some point.

Tenn fans thought it couldn't get worse than the fat bastard at the end, and it did.

Texas fans thought it couldn't get worse than Mack Brown's last two years, and it did.

If LSU doesn't NAIL the post-Les hire yall could easily wander in the desert for a decade. You don't exactly have an AD that inspires great confidence when it comes to getting a splash hire at any cost. Les himself was a kinda yawn hire that really worked out.

Plus all your talk about Les's buyout is ridiculous. He doesn't even make five million a year. If yall can't afford to buy that out there is no way yall will afford the Urban or Harbaugh-level hire it would take to ENSURE that this is LSU's low point for a decade plus.

I personally am a little scared because I want the best for LSU, but what I see is a legendary coach running out of time. The people who will decide to replace him include an AD that many of yall don't like and a president that decided it was a good idea to play political chicken with the university's credit rating. We need yall to make a good hire after Les to keep OU/Texas buried and right now I don't know if yall can do it.

That is honestly exactly why I don't worry one bit about A&M longterm. Even if Sumlin and Chavis both flop we have proven without a shadow of a doubt that we are willing to overpay a coach to take over the only SEC program in Texas that also happens to have the nicest facilities (or at least top three) in the conference. We will be in a good spot when it comes time to hire our next coach, who doesn't want to be overpaid?

I honestly don't know why other fans think that Sumlin getting paid $5 million a year is some sort of cutdown. My program was willing with Sumlin and Chavis to pay whatever money we needed to keep those men in maroon. I would be much much more worried if my national title winning coach didn't even make $5 million a year, and if my AD ran off one of the SEC's best defensive coordinators for what will be a $300k raise in 2015. If I was in the latter situation I would be WAY less confident such an AD could make the kind of hire my program needed, or more exactly he has access to the kind of resources needed to land the big name coach.

If we were to fire Les Miles tomorrow LSU would owe him not 4.3 million, but close to 19 million due to his buyout clause.

Exact number is 18.75 million buyout.

That isn't a crazy number or something. We would owe Sumlin much more if we canned him today. And I think we have to pay in a lump sum.

I really don't get LSU fans. Yall can have one of the highest paid staffs in the country and still bitch that Les doesn't earn his money even though he is underpaid. It is very confusing.

No doubt LSU has been better so far, but aTm has a higher ceiling. More potential.

I think A&M has had a better resume over the last 3 seasons than the swamp kittens.

No it isn't, but I'd still rather him retire while on top. Which I think he will. I like Les. I like how he runs the program, and think he's the perfect mixture of sane/crazy to fit in at LSU. Would you not agree he fits your pro typical LSU fan?

When you have all the pieces of a successful offense, with the exception of the QB position it's very frustrating. It's not like we've developed a QB since Matt Flynn either. Met was at LSU 3 years, but transferred from JUCO. I want to see us take a HS QB and mold them into a future AA. I think Franks might be the perfect mixture of athleticism, arm strength, and pocket awareness to be that guy. Time will tell.

Looks like both are in tdeclining mode. Both will probably level off and stay around the 8~4 range with every now and then a little better or worse. Both have about the same potential. TAMU does have more resources and could pass lsu.

Me too. I am a huge Les fan. Even before we entered the SEC I liked his style and personality. He doesn't take himself too seriously (greensmoothie.gif) but he puts out consistent and highly respected football teams. He is a great fit for the program, which is harder to find in the current landscape.

I will be honest, I can't directly relate to that. But I bet it feels like how I feel when me and everyone in the stadium knows it is a run play, and my team lines up to defend that and you aren't hoping that they don't allow a first down you are just hoping they don't score. Last year was frustrating, which is why Aggies are so welcoming for any help Chavis brings even if it isn't defending the run. The big chunks of yardage on broken plays in the backfield were just as painful.
