Most southern states do something better than everyone else when it comes to BBQ. I don't get the arguments at all. Just enjoy great food in the south

This.

It’s like arguing if enchiladas are better than tamales. Just embrace the different interpretations of a common concept.

Except for that mayo crap.

There is even some decent BBQ in Louisiana now

Louisiana just makes great food period. My dad's family are from /in central and southern Louisiana and those family reunions in Houma had some of the best food I've ever tasted.

White Alabama Sauce? It's great if made right on certain things. For instance, a brisket sandwich on a Ciabatta Roll.

Yeah - that would be my question. The vinigar and mustard based sauces make my pallet go I still eat it but it's not my favorite. Most things I like dry anyway. Just some good rubs is all I need with lots of smoke.

Burnt Bean in Seguin was a favorite of mine when I was traveling that way. Super nice guys and their que is legit.

Happy they got number 1 but sad that that place will forever be packed and I’ve lost my somewhat secret place.

The Texas Monthly top50 is a good list but I honestly don’t know how they can ever get a good breakdown once into the top 20. They are all terrific.

Best brisket I ever had was at John Mueller's place. He had a little trailer just off South Congress, as I recall.
He was a legend.

I am a Louisiana native, but have lived and traveled all over the southeast, including SC.

We smoke a lot of pork (big family, it’s cheap)…mostly ribs and butts …. I am a big fan of the NC vinegar flavor on pork.

Particularly a big fan of this product that I keep stocked because it also offers some heat/spice:

I also 100% endorse this for preseason/rub and such…product of Giddings, TX, can buy 100 lb box:

I don’t have the passion for brisket like the TX and KC folks…hence, can’t come close to duplicating it.

A couple of years ago, we went into that part of Texas (Lockhart and surrounding) in the hot summer to find cool water to canoe/float some rivers.

We went to one of those Black’s establishments.

Pretty dang good….but they proud of it. $$$

Didn’t care…we were hungry. The BBQ was great, and so was the air conditioning.

Every top 50 they've ever doneis busted dog shite because those effete weenies think there is a proper wine to choose with BBQ

I've been to right around half of the last 2-3 TM Top 50 joints. Some of them were just straight up not good BBQ. Others appeal to a very specific set of taste buds.

Louis Mueller in Taylor is better than any of the hipster joints they have rotated through the top 5. This is the joint where the concept of wrapping in butcher paper was invented.

Dayne's, Terry Black's, La Barbecue and Pinkerton's are very competitive. I will get around to trying Burnt Bean, but I am skeptical. I was not impressed by Interstellar, Franklin's, and some others that have rolled through their Top 10's.

For those who don't think Texas knows pork ribs, go to Pinkerton's and get some glazed ribs. Better than anything I've had in Tennessee, Alabama or Georgia, and I have had some good ones around there.
