quote:FSU is a dumpster fire post Mike Martin. They went 23-31 last year, won 9 conference games total, and haven't won the ACC in over a decade.
Clemson and FSU also have good baseball programs
Clemson is in a better state but even they haven't made Omaha in 13 years.

Do I want expansion? No, but I didn't in the past either
Do I think the SEC will expand? Yes.
If we do, I'd like to add the Eastern equivalent of what we did with OU and Texas- Clemson and Fla State. Take the undisputed top dogs of another conference, and leave that conference scrambling to fill the void with mid-majors.

First year of a new HC. And I'm not the one who brought up baseball (which FSU is objectively better at than Arkansas all time).

That's rich coming from a fan of an expansion team

The one thing the SEC has going for it that the Big 10 is overlooking by adding all of these schools is regionality. It won’t happen in 5 years but in 10 years, a few schools in that conference are going to get tired of traveling across the country.
Im not a huge fan of Sankey but the one thing he’s said he’s looking at in expansion teams is regionality. He doesn’t have many good ideas but I think that’s a VERY smart move on his part.
We could add FSU and Clemson and keep our regionality and the culture of the conference. The Big 10 has a bunch of different cultures that are inevitably going to clash and cause issues

quote:Which was the point. You stated football was the only reason for the acquisition, which was pointed to be potentially false considering the relative strength of OU and Texas in other sports. Not to mention the previous acquisition of Missouri. You then pointed to Clemson and FSU's baseball programs as being comparable as potential expansion targets, which was then observed to be currently lacking in comparison to both Texas and OU.
And I'm not the one who brought up baseball
You can trollbait all you want but these statements are pretty objective.

I want all the CSA states. UNC and UVA are premier brands and would add a lot to the conference.

Honestly I want the agreements with Texas and Oklahoma rescinded. Fans are shite. Programs are shite. We don't need them. We'll make less $$ with them. They'll dilute the results with terrible play.

LSU and Arkansas should be in a conference with the Texas and Oklahoma schools.

Getting North Carolina and Virginia are about the only reason Id care to expand.

As I said earlier. The SEC dominates college football, and college baseball. Expanding is inevitable with the Pac 12 on its way to dissolving.
The SEC should focus on expanding to increase its presence in basketball.
Duke and North Carolina would make amazing SEC additions.
We don't need to make the SEC an even tougher football conference. We will always dominate football due to the programs we have and where football talent resides

I will happily take all the "kick those yankees out" calls if it means Mizzou has a secure home in one of the winners of realignment.
Are you aware that Como is located in the Little Dixie region of MO? Missouri is significantly less Yankee than neighboring Midwestern states.

Don't want expansion...but I also don't want the Big Ten dipping into the southeast and getting any sort of presence here. That's why I'd take FSU, maybe even GA Tech, before letting the Big Ten into GA and FL. North Carolina would be ok...but I think Virginia can go to the Big Ten if the ACC somehow implodes. Getting a little too northern there... even though Virginia, outside of the areas right outside DC...fits in the SEC.

FSU - Big football brand, even in down years. Huge alumni base. Sneaky bit: it's rapidly becoming a good school. Acceptance rate is steadily going down. It's on the cusp of AAU. Yes, it would be a double dip (second SEC team) in the state of Florida, but Florida is huge and rapidly growing like Texas.
UNC - The flagship state school in brand new state. Huge alumni base. Storied basketball, not storied football, but still one of the most recognizable and valuable brands in college sports.
UVA and Duke - The first two are obvious adds. FSU is willing to jump now. UNC might not be or might have eyes for the BIG. Offering UVA and Duke preserves UNC's rivalries to convince UNC to join, expands the SEC into Virginia, and blocks the BIG out of the South. Also, while it's nice to add top flight football schools, you need some middle/lower class teams like UVA and Duke as well. Plus, UVA and Duke are incredibly rich and powerful institutions off of the football field.
One final thought: the BIG expanded into large states on the West Coast, but the Midwest's population growth has stalled and some Midwest states are even losing population. If the SEC blocks the BIG out of the South, then the SEC can just sit back, watch its population skyrocket and the rising tide lift its boats.

Get Oklahoma State and a few ACC schools that can also afford a buyout of the GOR.
Take notes from the current situation….find schools that aren’t negative in their athletic budgets and have funds/influence that can control the schools direction.
