With all due respect, your brother sounds like a homo.

How can a BAMA victory over Oklahoma or Auburn National Championship directly help LSU get recruits or win football games?

It may not help us win games, but it will help us in being ranked higher nationally when we beat those teams and getting into the playoff. I don't get why you wouldn't want our conference competion to be as strong nationally as possible?

As far as recruiting goes, it is up to our team to win conference games, coaches to recruit well in the offseason and try our hardest to win the big bowl games.

National TitleS =/= to bowl game. I agree National titles are sexy.
But a kid who is considering LSU or AU isn't going to go to AU because of a NC. LSU has just as much a chance next year as AU. LSU has a good enough tradition to compete with anyone for any kid. 5 star players base decisions on (IMO) relationship with coach, chance to play as Freshman, chance at pros.
Does AU winning help LSU win games no. Does it help make the SEC continue to look dominant in order to get more teams in BCS or Final Four next year. Yes.

Perceived strength is necessary for LSU to contend in the playoff system unless we go undefeated or win the SEC.

I think as long as WE take care of business we won't have to worry about anything. Look at 2007. We had 2 losses against average SEC teams.. our domination of VA Tech is what helped us get in the big game.

And we will have trouble going undefeated or winning the SEC if the teams we have to play every year weaken us and strengthen themselves by stealing recruits.

Once again. I will NEVER NEVER NEVER root for a team against whom LSU recruits.

Precisely. Some may say that it's the strength of the SEC that attracts the attention of top recruits in the first place.

While this is true, I'd be more willing to part with in-state recruits in favor of non-conference (further, non-divisional) foes, much like the 1990s. Having to line up against those guys on an annual basis makes their decision to go elsewhere that much more difficult to bear.

Sure, it also makes LSU an attractive school to out-of-state recruits as well, which is a plus. In the end, however, a division rival's success is only tangentially helpful to LSU's.

The allure of the SEC is why every recruit wants to go to BAMA, LSU, UF, etc. The preconceptions of the SEC is why a two lose LSU got into the natty in 2007, also the same reason we lost in 2011, but pick your poison.

I will NEVER cheer for bama, UF, UGA, and certainly not tennessee (my own personal hatred there, my ears bleed when I hear rocky top), but I sure as hell will be pissed when they lose OOC games and make the conference look like a joke.

If the conference keeps winning that is the best for us as the selection for the playoffs are going to be MORE subjective than the BCS not less. If you don't believe me, then check the internet for the detailed rankings metrics that the committee will use.

I do it and I don't need anyone's permission. I live in west Texas surrounded by Big XII fans. However, it's always funny to see their fans after a loss!

I have a buddy that roots for Alabama because they're in the SEC.

The SEC has won every national title game since 2006. If that wasn't the case, if the SEC wasn't the obvious dominant conference in all of college football - maybe I would have pulled for Bama. I think the conference as a whole can take this one loss just so me and you and other LSU fans can have the pleasure of watching the robot Nick Saban malfunction. May actually be GOOD for LSU recruiting that Bama lost, too.

Honestly I rooted against ou last night. I went to high school with a few Oklahoma fans and that, combined with the douche they have for a coach has me rooting against them every week. Oklahoma's fan base, at least from where I grew up, is a bunch of white trash rednecks that have never stepped foot on the campus. Then they say stupid shite about how the big 12 has always been better than the sec because of one decent performance last night.

Not really. I don't pull for any of the SEC teams I don't like, never have.

This is another reason for me. I can't stand hearing OK or Florida St. fans talking about how overhyped we are.

I root SEC over OOC always but.........

I will never pull for BAMA and it has nothing to do with being an LSU/SEC fan. I simply hate gumps, I hate their livers and their guts, period, end of story.

Yes, it a Southern Thing. Like saying Yes Ma'am or sir. Holding open the door for others. Helping your neighbor.

Back in the day the rest of the country use to put down the South for everything including College Football. As late as 2004 Auburn went undefeated and left out of BSCNCG. So, yeah I pull for the SEC.

Yeah, if Auburn gets blown out what happens to the SEC mystique of invincibility. It won't help LSU when teams are selected for the Championship. Fans of Ohio State, Southern Cal, and Notre Dame will love it.
