Alabama
Tenn
LSU
Georgia
Florida
Auburn are considered the Big Six in the SEC by most

Texas and OU def have done enough in the past. Just curious. Upvote for yes, downvote for no.

This discussion happens every offseason and yet every year they forget what the Big 6 means.

I def know what the Big Six means..but they are also very new to the SEC and both very successful programs. So they can't have all the SEC titles the Big Six has...it is impossible being in the league so few years...but they have the national name, the Natties, the pros, the fanbases, etc like those in the Big Six...so seemed like fair question.

No, they haven’t won the SEC so they aren’t Big6

This is the only “Big 8” I’m aware of

An interesting follow-up question would be who gets relegated in the new Big 6.

Auburn would be the obvious one. After that probably Florida or Tennessee.

How is LSU in the big six and Florida lower..our resumes are very, very similar..

Florida vs LSU

SEC titles: Florida 8 LSU 12
National titles: Florida 3(1996,2006, 2008)
LSU - 4(1958, 03, 2007, 2019)
Record verse each other - 34-34-3...very much can't get more even then that
Heisman winners: Florida- 3 LSU- 3
NFL draft picks- Florida 380, LSU 350

Insane how even it is as a rivalry in most catagories.

This is what get from google

"LSU and Florida have one of the most remarkably even and intense rivalries in college football history, historically hovering around a .500 record over more than 50 years of annual matchups."

What has Oklahoma or the Aggies done at all in the last five years to be considered better programs than Tennessee?

Football: tennessee has more top 10 finishes then OU and Aggies in the last 5 years and same amount of playoff’s appearances

Basketball: Tennessee has unequivocally been better than both OU and Aggies the last 10 years

Baseball: Tennessee is the winningest baseball program in the country the last 7 years and won a natty unlike Aggie or OU

I swear people just post and dont even watch sports. Tennessee has been the best all around program in the big 3 sports the last 5 years

Anyone who would not consider Tenn as the Big Six or Big 8 is beyond crazy.

In the last 5 years Tennessee has in the Big 3 Sports:
-2 SEC Baseball Regular Season titles
-2 SEC Baseball tourney titles
-5 straight Super Regionals
-3 Omaha Appearances
-1 Baseball Natty
-1 SEC basketball Regular Season title
-1 SEC basketball tourney title
-3 Elite 8s
-4 Sweet 16s
-1 Playoff Appearance
-2 top 10 finishes in football

Thats better than Aggie or Mizzou have in their athletic department’s history…trolls aside I think we are being decently competitive across the board

Auburn and Ole Miss have traded places if you consider the true top 8 programs in the SEC in the NIL era.

If I were 10 or 12 years old, the last 5 years would probably carry a hell of a lot of weight with me. I've been around considerably longer, so...congratulations?

But then I've also always been into history and, in the case of college football, tradition. Tennessee is more than fine on both counts.

Going back to the original question, as an OU fan, they haven't been in the SEC long enough for inclusion in the "Big 6 (or 8)" to be important to me yet.

I can see saying they have to accomplish these things in the actual SEC before being recognized for membership in a distinctly SEC concept. But I also see the point of recognizing past accomplishments.

It's a pretty good topic for debate. I don't have strong feelings about it either way, but it's interesting to see how different people interpret such a thing.

The key word from the OP is “now”. These 18 year old kids have no memory of Florida’s championships. They’ve seen a train of fired Florida coaches.

The same for Tennessee. I wouldn’t dare put Mizzou in the Big 6, but an 18 year old kid has seen Mizzou accomplish as much as Tennessee and Florida. Auburn is the closest to being in but their bad seasons are so bad in recent memory it’s hard to put them there.

Finally I’d say the big 6 are the big 6 because when you beat them or even lose close it’s a respect builder. No victory over a mid 6 at this time gives much SEC or national clout.

I can’t believe anyone cares. I have seen people fight over some stupid shite here but this might take the cake.
