Do we all agree that the SEC, as a whole, is down?

Tennessee barely beats App State in overtime.
Arkansas hangs on to beat Louisiana Tech 21-20.
Mississippi State loses to South Alabama.
Kentucky loses to Southern Miss.
Florida struggles with Massachusetts.
LSU loses to Wisconsin.
Vandy and South Carolina participated in a cripple right.
Mizzou lost to West Virginia.

Texas A&M, Alabama and Georgia had impressive wins.

Auburn took #2 Clemson down to the wire with stellar defensive play, but their offense and offensive game planning are bad enough to keep them in the toilet bowl.

Now, we wait on Ole Miss to play Florida State...

I'll agree with that, but it's off to a bad start.

Definitely a shaky start. It would've been even worse but other conferences managed to herpa derp along with us.

Dabo tried to hand Gus a win. Gus said, "Nah, fam."

No one's questioning that. SEC lost 10 OOC games in all last year but lost 5 yesterday alone.

Compared to which conference? Like others have said,
perhaps off to a slow start but lets take a look about a month from now and see what's shaking out.

The SEC will probably only win 7 bowl games this year instead of 10. Maybe.

It's the first game. The teams that struggled have underlying issues.

Tennessee: Extremely hyped, playing a decent team. Dobbs did not play well at all and the offense looked lost. Given that they are no longer "young" this is concerning.

Arkansas: New QB, New OL, New RBs, bad defense from last year. Won a very losable game. Will most likely lose next week at TCU (although TCU had their own issues). For a team projected to be 6-6, we might do better than that based on our competition.

Mississippi State: I dunno, this loss was bad. They should have won, but they shouldn't have been in that position anyway. Their defense isn't that great and they're relying on their QB to pretend he's Dak. Mississippi State might finish last in the West.

Kentucky: They suck. Their coach sucks. This is not news.

Florida: No fricking Offense. UMASS is bad. Kentucky would beat UMASS. Florida will finish 3rd or lower in the East.

LSU: The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. LSU will lose 3+ games this year. They don't have a quarterback and at this point they never will.

South Carolina: They could finish as high as third in the East.

Vanderbilt: They could finish as high as fourth in the East.

Missouri: They're bad.. but so are Kentucky, Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Florida. The East is an absolute shite show.

Texas A&M: Call me in 5 weeks.

Alabama: They'll win the west barring something really amusing happening.. or USC being really shitty.

Georgia: They'll win the east barring Chubb being injured again. He's the best running back in the SEC and has been the past 3 years.

Auburn: They'll contend for the bottom three spots in the West.

Mississippi: We'll know a bit more after Monday. I'd pencil them in for the 2 through 4 spots in the West though.

This
Pac 12 did almost as bad and than you have teams like Ohio St., Michigan, and Michigan St. who played bad teams. If they had played teams like UCLA, North Carolina, or Houston they might have lost for all we know.

Tenn. may have deserved a loss and are likely the most overated SEC team behind LSU, who I think many of us felt was overated... again, we are just used to it now.

Kentucky snatched defeat from the jaws of victory as they say, and since it was football and not basketball we can all continue not caring too much.

Florida clearly has work to do if they are going to challenge UGA and Tenn, who isn't out of it just because of one really ugly performance.

We knew the rest of the East was weak and Auburn has some talent on offense, it just needs some good coaching and time to work out who should be out there or Gus is a few bricks short. Jesse had to contain himself from calling Gus an idiot and try and convince us that musical QB's isn't as stupid as we all know it is.

The bottom half of the SEC is about what we thought it was really, we'll just need some time for teams to float up and some to drop down. Looks like it won't take much time either.

The SEC was and will remain the best. However, the gap is not as wide as some like to think it is. CFB really does have a lot of parity right now, to go along with terrible coaching. What the SEC has is Bama, that will continue to dominate as long as Saban's around.

Ask on Tuesday. If OM upsets FSU, I'm gonna say 'no'. Auburn used an offense made out of Silly String and a swivel fan to take the #2 team to the wire. Bama slaughtered USC so badly you'd have thought Lane Kiffin had a bone to pick with them. A high-ranked LSU shouldn't have lost to an unranked Wisky, but nobody can honestly claim Wisky was a pushover, not with the type of coaches and recruits brought into the system they've had over the last few years. Unranked TAMU took out a ranked UCLA. Not exactly a wash with LSU, but still balances the scales a bit. Georgia beat a ranked UNC. UT had a rough start, and there's no excuse, but Appy State is very tough by "cupcake" standards. And UF and Arkansas...well, they won, at least. UK looked bad, but, you know...UK. They're like the United Kingdom of American football.

The problem here is that it's nearly impossible for a conference to be dominating top to bottom. Even in the SEC's undisputed best years, that wasn't the case. Currently it looks about par for the course. If OM takes down FSU, we can at least say the SEC is definitely ahead of the curve at top. If not, well, about par for the course. I mean, OM and Auburn were supposed to lose, after all.

Missouri sucks, though. If they ever get a real invitation to join the SEC (not that practical joke Slive played on them back around 2011, 2012), I will be very annoyed.

Too early but it is concerning. The sec had a real opportunity to put away the naysayers early this year.

I think Bama is just that much better than everyone else. Outside of Bama the SEC will not make the playoffs.

It is week 1 and very early and some tough games were played.

Yeah LSU played bad but they also played pretty much a road game against a team you can't make mistakes against. Harris still can't read a defense and playcalling refuses to help him.
