Fredericktown says hi! That's where I grew up and we often went to Dexter to see family. Ms. Crow taught at my kids elementary in Fenton way back when.

Better than “fixing to” or “fidnda”

We definitely say fixing to in the Bootheel, I’m right on the northern edge on top of Crowleys Ridge. Cotton, rice, beans, and corn as far as the eye can see in summertime. The Bootheel and Eastern Arkansas are very much Southern. I’d actually say anything south of I44 in Missouri is pretty southern. There are some real strong German Catholic and Lutheran communities once you start getting into the hills around Cape Girardeau and up north towards Ste. Genevieve. Ozarks are much like Appalachia if you still consider that Southern.

If you're white it's fixin if you're black it's finna. Hope this helps OP learn about the South.

Yeah, I haven't seen her in 40 years, but I recall she taught school in the St. Louis area after graduating from Mizzou. She also sang on jingles for St. Louis radio stations.

Texans can’t even pronounce their favorite restaurant correctly.
“Y’all meet me at water burger, squeat.”
I’m fortunate to live in a burb that is full of transplants.

That is what I was thinking. Missouri resident all my life, and we always say Coke, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, etc.

Of all the bitching about Missouri on this board this has to be the dumbest I've seen. We might not even be in this conference if it wasn't for you dumb fricks.

No, the dumbest is the weekly, "Kick Missouri out of the SEC," which we all know, ain't happening.

No the dumbest is when Texas newbs act as if they have any clout in our conference.

“Pop” is used by midwesterners. The Yankees on the east coast and out west say Soda

I grew up in South Texas. “Fixin’ to” is proper. If you don’t understand what I am saying when I use this term, then you are absolutely from New Jersey…

Yes, “soda” is northern, but “soda water” is definitely southern…

Sikeston, home of the Sikeston Train, James WIlder. If you are old enough you know how much a beast he was.

Sorry, I have already been here long enough to know that neither y’all nor aggie runs this conference…
I am, however, looking forward to visiting Branson, MO to catch some shows when I feel like I am old enough to enjoy them… but since I am only 62 years old now, I don’t think I’ll be ready for the Branson crowd until I add at least another 20 or 30 more years…

North Carolina?? They call it pop on Andy Griffith all the time.
"Yep... I'm go to the filling station, get a bottle of pop, and then go to Thelma Lou's to watch some television".

I have lived in NC over 30 years now, but am still learning some of their ways. I actually live near Mt. Airy, NC, Andy Griffith’s home town, and have good friends who grew up there.
Those folks are some mighty fine storytellers…
