Southeast people add "a" in front of everything.
"I'm a fixin to go a fishin".
"I'm a fixin to go a fishin".

I love how one section of rural Missouri should "southernize" a state where 10x as many people identify as midwesterners. Missourians have way way way more in common with Iowa and Minnesota than Arkansas or Mississippi or Alabama.
Not the extreme Southeast portion including the bootheel which begins 75 miles south of Cape Girardeau. The bootheel is part of the Mississippi Delta where cotton is king, along with wheat, soybeans, and now rice. It has absolutely nothing in common with the Midwest. I grew up 5 miles from the Arkansas border - only 100 miles north of Memphis and 200 mles south of STL.

In some pockets of the Southeast they do that...just think of Mr. Darling on The Andy Griffith Show. In most of the Southeast, they don't.

- Top third of Missouri(smallest pop) does associate with northern states.
- Middle third (80% of the pop) is all over the place which is common with large cities
- Bottom third is very southern.
Overall, Missouri is more south than it is north. That number may be close to 70-30

Most of southern Missouri is the Ozarks , same as northern Arkansas
and location of University of Arkansas. Native Ozarkians don't consider
themselves Midwest and the accent is closer to eastern Tennessee
or north Alabama and Appalachia , where most of the
settlers came from. Maybe a Midwestern accent with southern undertones.
Of course there's been a big influx of people moving in from around the country ,so that's fading the generalities.

This is why I LOVE when Arkansas fans act like Mizzou is some foreign monstrosity. Do they not realize that their precious University sits in the same geographic and cultural region as most of Missouri?

They do not understand or grasp this. Take it from someone who lives in the middle of their damn state.
