Oxford doesn't really have a dive.

Back in the early 70's Oxford had a place IIRC was called The Gin. Seems it was a old cotton gin turned into a bar. It was a good place...and about the only place in Oxford in the early 70's. I'm sure it's long gone.

For Columbia, does Group Therapy count as a dive?

Probably in the past, but it has been around so long I'd call it more of a landmark. And since Steve Taneyhill bought it, there's a lot more mainstream crowd and stuff going on there besides cocaine at 4:00 am.

Went to the Mayflower in Athens for breakfast this past year. Good food and really nice folks. The place was packed and we sat at the counter. Was fun watching the guy cook but combine September weather with coffee and the heat of a kitchen I sweated and my butt off.

Makes sense.

Frazier's a/k/a Hotty Toddy's was usually my haunt of choice on Sundays. The level of buffonery and the sheer diversity of the crowd in that place was astounding.

I worked there for 2 years in the 1990's. It wasn't really a dive then, just a college bar. It is long gone, but there are rumors of its resurrection.

That was part of the charm of those places.

I was at Frazier's one night when someone ran over several people in the parking lot. It got shut down for a bit after that.

Is Group Therapy still swinging down in Five Points?

Nevermind. I found the answer.

When did Steve buy it?

many of the land grants have their own creamery and sell ice cream and /or cheese on campus.

If I visited another college, I would try to hit up their ice cream place if they had one. That's why I asked.

LSU has one as well, fun fact it has been open since 1905 and has about 24 flavors at any given time. The Dairy Store, but it also sells fresh meats and other dairy products.

WHAT!?

I know they "closed" like 7 or 8 years ago temporarily but then opened back up. They gone for good now?

Yep. Pretty sure it's a tattoo parlor now. I'd second what someone said above about Nowhere bar. Pool tables, darts, live music, and cheap drinks.

LSU has its own ice cream store on campus.

Handy Andys in Oxford. Someone said BBB earlier. BBB is the most popular, pretty expensive breakfast place in Oxford. Would not call it a dive.

Used to have good burgers and BBQ. I haven't been in a while. The Beacon used to be the greasy breakfast place.

good place, hard to call it a dive though.

George's under the overpass kinda comes close; really still more of a restaurant but you can get longnecks and such. Great atmosphere.

I am sort of hoping no one says Bottom's Up for Fayetteville. The incidence of an STD outbreak there is already high.

That was it. A lot of good times there.

There was a western bar in Columbus, also. That place bred fights.

It burnt down sometime around 2010-2012. Friend of mine's family owned it when it was an actual operating cotton gin.
