I think so as well. It's really cool to care about people and their future. Even those we don't know personally.

Don't you agree?

No. I do not care about Nick Papageorgio.

I didn’t care about him in National Lampoons. I don’t care about him here. He is just a made up character.

A little different situation. His was an LSU only record. And he had the record in the last game and it was called back because of Lacy (remember Lacy in tears because he knew he fricked him?). The team wanted him to get the record so he practiced and played in the bowl.

Cam Ward was an NCAA D1 record that he wanted. Once he had the record he was out.

Awesome!

But he didn’t have to quit. Quitting, and losing, was a choice.

So Cam's teammates probably didn't want him to get the record we assume.

Seems likely.

Or maybe his teammates did want him to play and go for the record.

Maybe?

It’s also possible Ward gets paid a game bonus which kicks in after playing the first half, that would make it even worse

And then quit on the team and lose?

And you don’t understand the difference between a WR playing and then getting taken out vs your starting QB not playing the second half and you losing?

If LSU had started losing, Nabors would have returned? You really believe that?

Good grief.

What i understand is that these kids talk to their families and coaches and teammates and then decide.

It's pretty obvious that Cam wanted to play to get the record. It's pretty obvious his coaches supported him in that. I'm pretty sure, if asked, his teammates would want him to play if he was willing to risk injury.

I imagine they got all excited when he told them he would play in the bowl game and go for the record.

Teammates are supportive in my experience.

This incident--together with almost the entire team at Marshall hitting the portal and abandoning their school, resulting in cancellation of their bowl game--is a forecast of things to come. Bowl games will likely be obsolete, sooner rather than later. What astounds me is how rapidly the NIL and transfer portal have wrought their destruction. The storied history of all the grand collection of heroic feats by teams and Indvidual players will be a distant memory, in the words of Margaret Mitchell, "Gone with the wind,"

It's a bad look for the sport and him as a person, regardless of how people try to defend it.

It was not players and attitudes like this that build the sport, and the sport won't live for very long with it either.

Even the NFL has more loyalty and returning/familiar faces at this point due to contracts etc.

That said, I'm completely fine with Milroe doing this in our game.

Players have been sitting out of bowl games for a decade. Before the portal and NIL even existed.

And the Marshall thing was/is 100% on the coach that left and the Marshall administration. Not the kids.

The adults act like children and then yell at the 19 year old.

Asinine.

I have a feeling a lot of players that randomly get injured outside of games near the end of the season but magically show up to the combine 100% healthy were never actually injured. They decide to sit out to protect their draft stock and the coaches play the injury card to cover for them

If he's afraid of the ISU defense, he's in for a rude awakening in the NFL.

He was willing to play 2 Qtrs. but not one more to win the game.

Not a competitor...
