Yep that is right, they wanted the Pac12.

I remember that. Didn't the SEC inquire about Texas joining the conference with A&M at some point? And I think we were turned down flatly by Texas. A&M initially turned the SEC down too if I recall correctly.
A&M turned the SEC down back during the formation of the Big 12, circa 1994-96. The SEC and Oklahoma were actually in talks while DeLoss Dodds was cooking up his super-Pac-16 conference scheme. This didn't happen, as OU needed to bring along OSU, and the SEC wasn't interested:
Official: SEC invited Sooners, Aggies
I think what's getting lost in all of this current discussion is how Mizzou spent the entire time telling everyone who would listen that they were joining Nebraska and going to the B1G because that's where their real rivals were. When that invite embarrassingly didn't materialize, they quickly became fans of the SEC.

And since then the PAC has made it clear that would have been the wrong choice. A&M was right, they were wrong.

Just get ready for a lot of pats on your head, we are Texas. Pretty much sums it up. Great addition. B

You've got the board's attention Daniel. Would this ensure that you go away?

That depends on a number of things.
The BETTER question is whether anybody else would want to leave....like.....EVERYBODY?

A&M all but agreed to join the SEC in 1994, but Texas politicians who were mainly powerful Texas Tech and Baylor alums, used carrots and the threat of the stick to make sure that A&M joined in the creation of the Big 12.
Texas tried to negotiate a mass Pac 12 move with Larry Scott in the first realignment crisis that was kicked off by Missouri and Nebraska's overtures to the Big Ten that led to Nebraska getting an invite. There was a small Texas A&M fan backlash against the idea at that time be A&M fans who wanted to join the SEC instead. Colorado, who was basically potentially going to be stabbed in the back and left out of Texas' version of the new Pac 12, decided to go ahead and join the Pac 12 on their own first.
The announcement of The Longhorn Network precipitated A&Ms final disenchantment with the Big 12. They cared about and worked at preventing A&M to the SEC only as far as it would be self serving. As long the their network and their cash were not affected, whatever. The smaller schools in the Big 12 were much more worried.

Once they realized they had no power to stop us, they boycotted us. And pressured the rest of the Big 12 to do the same. It lasted quite a few years.
How did they boycott A&M? Baylor and Texas Tech fans stopped going to A&M games and buying aggay merch after y’all bolted?
Explain?

Horn AD told everyone in the big 12 they would face the horn wrath if they scheduled us in anything
Several ADs actually said so

Ok so scheduling… well yeah, that doesn’t sound unreasonable for a cool off period after you left the conference. I don’t see that as such a big deal.
I’m still waiting for someone to tell me how their behavior in a Texas based conference will translate in a conference where they will be just one of the guys.

That's just it--they won't be just one of the guys. Their unofficial motto is "We ARE the Jonese." You say, "Oh, the SEC schools won't let anyone come in here and boss us around." This is true. But the sips won't try to come in and boss everyone around. They'll play nice at first, then after a few years start proposing various bylaw reforms that sound reasonable and look to benefit everyone. After a while, you'll start to notice they benefit everyone but t.u. always benefits a bit more. Then some rules pass that unexpectedly start harming some member schools. The t-sips may not have introduced such bylaws or policies, but they always champion and support them, often in the name of "academic integrity." Ask yourself how Nebraska went from being a perennial national power to an also-ran in less than a decade. Look to the Big 12's partial qualifier policies. How did the SWC break up? Look at changes to the league's revenue distribution in the 1980s. The Big 12's renegotiated league revenue distribution twice over the past 20 years, and each time t.u. has come away with a bigger piece of the pie.
They'll bring glitz and glam and boost TV ratings, sure, but inside of 10 years they'll be stirring up trouble, because they always have and always will believe the SEC is beneath them.

Back in the SWC days when Arkansas went to the SEC, A&M was going to go as well, Texas let it be known that the SECs academics weren't what they wanted. They were more interested in the Big10 actually.
Then Sibley basically tied TTU and Baylor to us both and said it's a package deal.

Had Aggie tell me today how much $ A&M has and Texas has, vs. SEC schools.
If that correlated to football success, I would be most impressed. Evidence proves we should not be.
SEC strength is in collective brand. SEC states (minus FL) = 38mln. TX = 25mln. Might $ bags Texas wants in to SEC.
Not impressed. SEC, baby!

Think about what you are saying.
How could they stop them from leaving?
Money, a lawsuit?
Remember, A&M has money, they never stop talking about it
