Would you rather spent $7.4M a year on a coach who has proven he can get to Atlanta or $5M a year for Mike Norvell or Chad Morris?

I don't think there's even an argument there.

Are those the only 2 options?

Damn Aubs, you fall for this shite EVERY time. Your coach has a down year and you want to shite can him. Next year your coach has a good year, beats Alabama and someone else comes calling.

You over pay coach you wanted to fire a year ago and now you're stuck with him and end up paying his buy out two years later.

How many times in a row has this happened?

I just think it’s BS he gets paid that much just so you can avoid a Morris or Norvell.

Jimmy Sexton was at Tom Williams Automotive and he bought two new Range Rovers....one Navy and one Cashmere.....winning....if his take is 10% then he has made near 15 million in the past 7 days....

Who are the realistic others? If you did a blind resume, what other semi-reasonable candidates for Auburn would pop off the page as clearly being better than Gus?

He will be back on the hot seat next year when he loses on road to UGA and Bama and at home to LSU.

If you are willing to pay $7.5m to a coach, I'm sure you will have more options.

I don't know. I have paid very little attention to non-SEC teams.

(a) I don't think they are actually paying him $7.5M a year unless I'm mistaken

(b) But still, who? Taggart? Maybe Fuente? I just fail to see anyone outside of about 10-12 current coaches who I'd be comfortable letting Malzahn walk for, and I don't think there is any amount of money that would get them to Auburn. If you can hire James Franklin, sure. But that isn't happening.

Just my opinion.

Well that’s your opinion due to the fact that you aren’t a troll and you’re knowledgeable. Tall order for an SECR poster.

LOL - well Prattville isn't trolling. I understand what he is saying. There is definitely the possibility Gus signs a big deal and then goes 9-3/7-5 and Auburn is back to wanting to fire him again except with a HUGE buyout.

But, I just don't think there is a better option for them (or almost anyone else in this type of situation, for that matter). Everybody hates a guy who wins 8, 8, 10 games until they fire him and hire a guy who wins 7, 5, 8 games. If a guy has proven he can take you to an elite level 1 or 2 times every 5 or 6 years, I don't think you can expect much more (unless the off years are total disasters). Gus was treading the "off years total disaster" train as well as the one fluke season train. But this year shows that he can at least repeat having a Top 10 type team and that 2013 wasn't some sort of total fluke.

Again, JMO.

Coaching salaries in general are about to spike.

What worries me more is the future buyouts.

If you pay that much, you expect the coach to win. Then you are in the position of having to buy out someone who underperformed.

Arkansas was willing to offer a ton. A lot of schools are going to continue to open up the checkbook to make coaches say no.
