What’s the argument against him being #1? Especially if he can close out his career with two more productive years.

Well, it just depends on what you're judging. Are you talking about college only, or college and NFL combined? Personally, I only care about what they did in college but if you're combining both then he has a great argument to be #1 over Bo and Herschel. For college, it's just tough to judge the different eras.

Henry also played on stacked Alabama teams and most assumed he had a major benefit from that which wouldn’t correlate to the nfl
and a stacked NFL TENNESSEE TITANS squad that dragged to a 10 point lead on two different occasions in the arc championship game before we got Mahome’d….in his prime

Henry only started 4 games his first two seasons. And he was carrying water for a feast or famine passing game many of his years with the TItans. In the 2019 playoff run he accounted for 204 of the Titans' 272 total offensive yards against the Patriots and 205 of 300 total yards against the Ravens.

He is 200 yards out of the top 10 all time.

#5 All time in rushing touchdowns

Nobody as big as he is should be able to move as fast as he does. He’s a freak. Glad we had him at Bama. It’s a shame he’ll probably never get a Super Bowl ring. I was hoping the Ravens were his ticket. Still a legend and a HOFer.

It is tough to judge the pros across eras as well.

But Jim Brown is still the goat. Only NFL player to average over 100 yards rushing per game.

Great thread title.

What would you suggest?

I wasn't going for flashy. I knew if I just put Derrick Henry it would attract the Alabama and LSU posters, and anyone else that might be interested in Henry. I wasn't interested in attracting trolls, so....a simple title is what I decided on.

Had he played anywhere other than Alabama he’d be ranked up there with Bo and Herschel as one of the greatest RBs to ever play in the SEC.

He's basically the modern version, it's been years since anyone but Henry ran it 30+ times a game in the SEC. He's simply built different, a physical freak, and has probably had the best RB career since Adrian Peterson

Would be pretty interesting to see how he would have done if he had come in during the 80s when he wouldn't have needed to learn that much pass blocking and how to catch the ball.

I have a feeling Yeldon would have been relegated to 2nd pretty quickly

He'd probably have been more liked in college and even more in the NFL.

Understanding that this place is the SEC Rant, so shite posting is expected, we need more posts like this, and less shite posts about “Hey rest of the SEC, look at how awesome MY team is performing. Also, look at how shitty YOUR team is doing.”

Especially from some of our fellow UGA fans recently. No biggie, it’s normal for some fans in general when their team is doing well. Like Kirby says, humility is a week away.

Just my opinion, which is no better than anyone else’s.

con·so·la·tion (Oxford Languages): the comfort received by a person after a loss or disappointment.

Don’t get me wrong, I do appreciate your comment. But I’m certainly not losing any sleep over the state of affairs on SEC Rant.

Overall I love it here.

The 2013 Sugar Bowl the Sooner defense had no answer for Derrick Henry. He ran for 100 yards on 8 carries and watching that game we wondered why Saban didn't lean on him more when McCarron wasn't getting it done.

Was it because he was just a freshman?

Ala fans still wondering the same but it's a good question.

Alabama also had Bo Scarborough during Henry's time at Bama, right?

Scarborough was even more physically imposing than Henry. Dude was built like a freakinn' Greek God.

A lot of people I know have him in their top five greatest RB's in SEC history. It would be hard to argue against it.

You have never heard anything controversial about the man. Keeps his mouth shut works hard and plays ball. You gotta pull for someone like him.

A freak of nature. But age is gonna catch up honestly I hope he gets in the Top 10 this year and hangs it up on top. He's 31 now and been pretty fortunate injury wise.
