Not always a “beloved” figure in SEC lore, but may Coach Fran rest in peace.

He was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his kidney in 2016, and cleared that. In 2021, he was given a more dire cancer diagnosis, but after treatment was in full remission. According to family friends, the cancer returned earlier this year, and he was moved to hospice care in October.

Apologies. He at least gave off the impression that he was gonna be a good coach. RIP though.

Don't forget you fired your alum Stallings who 19 years later would go coach the Tide and lead them to a national championship in his 3rd year.
