I thought he was a good hire at the time given the pool but in no way a slam dunk.

Getting worked by FSU certainly leaves a lot of doubt for his championship capacity long term but it's hard to complain much about him if you're a bama fan

But let's say he gets to consistent 10-12 win seasons but can't finish. Does bama have a BK situation on its hands? Too good to fire, not good enough for expectations.

Even some of the greats (Urban) had some head scratchers in championship runs (2014 Ohio State). The difference between him and Kelly is that DeBoer wins top 10 and top 25 matchups at a very high clip. 10-12 win seasons may be good enough to get into the playoff in today's CFB so Alabama fans would more than likely be happy. And given his record in big games, he has a great shot.

He's not perfect of course, but there are no perfect coaches. I would not want to be searching for a head coach right now. People looking for the next Saban out there are going to find it very difficult.

Isn't this the same comment made about Jimbo a few years back?

Elko hasn't won a championship yet. The verdict is still out.

Plus, many aTm athletic teams in general have a long and sordid history of taking a dump late in the season.

His first 14 games sucked balls, especially considering that he inherited Saban’s team.

Buddy, that’s the only thing he’s good at.

Texas A&M has never won an SEC division or conference title. Their last conference title was in the Big 12 in 1998, 27 years ago. Their last national championship was in 1938, 87 years ago.

No Texas A&M fan should ever type the words “consistently win big games”.

Sometimes you need to time to get settled in a place. Also, QB play absolutely stifled that team last season. There were many open receivers running around and Milroe just didn't see them. Now it's his fault that Milroe wasn't benched, but a lot of the warts from last season was due to Milroe being very erratic. People forget in Saban's last year that he almost lost to a very bad Arkansas team and was a 4th and 31 away from losing to a bad Auburn team.

He also inherited Saban's QB who couldn't run his system, but was pretty much forced to keep and play in order to keep the team together.

And during those first 14 games, he still beat Georgia, a ranked SC, Missouri and LSU.

He seems to lack a killer instinct like Saban had. That’s what made him a great coach is the ability to move past who a team was and just be the best version of yourself no matter the opponent.

This is totally and completely false.

His record in big games is superb, better than Nick Saban.

What he needs to prove is that he’s figured out how to not follow up a big game win with an inexplicable loss to an unranked team.

Agreed but if you look at his record at Bama and Washington he has a much higher number of close games.

Just going on a limb here, but I'd wager the overall SoS in the PAC 12 didn’t have quite the parity of the SEC in most years, let alone 2025.

Last night was a gritty win by a tired team in a tough environment. Best win they could have had IMO to check some egos and keep the team hungry and focused each week moving forward.

There is still a lot to do moving forward for Bama to reach their goals.

Yeah, not sure how you watch CFB and not know that is his BIGGEST attribute. It's literally repeated on most CFB shows.

I mean he wins 88% of his games as a head coach and is 19-3 against top 25 opponents. Only 3 current head coaches have national championships so that is not really the knock you think it is.
