Soft conferences? May seem that way today, but the SWC was once one of the toughest, and in the late 90's, early 2k's the Big12 was in the running for best conference in the country top to bottom.

Texas did play in a very soft conference for years. That is very very true. The SEC were screaming to the top of our lungs becuz the SEC consistently was left out of the NC game which is what lead ultimately to the SECG WHICH OUR COMMISSIONER at the time said we would beat the crap out of these teams and we will declare the SEC winner as the NC. But the doors came open when LSU beat the Sooners in the NCG when they were beating people in their weak conference 90 to 0! While the national sports media declared the Sooners as the greatest team in college football history at the time.

The 2022 natty was Bama/UGA genius. Bama played them in 2021 a month before in the SECCG.

The last three times they’ve met were December ‘23, January ‘22, and December ‘21.

I agree they did not play in the 2022 regular season, making 2022 UGA the only team to not have to play Bama to win the NCG.

The 2022 season ran from August/September of 2022 to January of 2023. Don't tell me you're confused by that.

UGA was the lest SEC team to win a national championship.
We are the last SEC team to win a championship having played Alabama.
We are the last SEC team to win a championship having not played Alabama.
We are the last SEC team to win a championship playing Alabama twice.

When we're talking about latest football national titles from the SEC, there's only one answer.

UGA.

I don't have my aggy calculator on this computer but it is probably time I find it and put it on dropbox so I can see how many historical milestones the A&M national championship is closer to than today. They passed the civil war long ago.

Didn’t you lose the first time against Bama?

yes, UGA lost the first game against Bama that didn't matter for them making the playoff (because Oklahoma State had already lost earlier).

UGA wasn't even the #4 seed after that loss, they were #3.

the only impact of that game for UGA was playing Michigan in the first round rather than Cincy (or perhaps ND) if they had won.

Knowing they were in is why UGA started a walk on at safety and didn't bench Bennett due to a bad performance. UGA didn't need to win to make the playoff. They didn't want to mess with Bennett's head by benching him going into the playoff.

It worked out. He was the MVP in both playoff games that year. (and the next year).

Bama on the other hand had to win to make it. UGA had to win to make it in last year so still played injured guys like Brock Bowers... because it WAS a make or break game. If Texas and FSU had lost before the game started, Bowers wouldn't have played against Bama last year because UGA would have been in win or lose.

It wasn’t our women’s track team.

Our women’s track won a natty this year if that’s what you’re asking.

We, we, we….lol

I already agreed this was correct. Georgia dodged Bama in the regular ‘22 season thanks to a block of the back in Baton Rouge.

* denotes Tua was hurt and missed a month of practice which resulted in an uncharacteristically sluggish start. Otherwise, LDU loses and Bama gets the playoff nod.

That's nice. There's two reasons why that doesn't really bother UGA fans all that much.

First, UGA is 1-1 in national title games against Bama. While we'd like to be 2-0, 1-1 is a solid performance.

If UGA loses to Bama in the regular season and in SECCG but still makes the playoff and ends up winning the national title... we won't care about the Bama games at all. Any more than if we lost to Texas or Ole Miss in both those games and did they same. We all know that the national title is all that matters

Second, the coach who managed that record for Bama is no longer at Bama. It's like bringing up Mark Richt or Jim Donnan results to attack UGA. Those games happened, but neither is UGA's coach right now..
