Seems really petty to destroy your legacy over being butthurt over a number.
A guy winning the Heisman with 3 losses should just be thankful and move along.

Pretty ballsy to claim a number is Name, Image, Likeness and send a C&D. Imagine if every player did that?
Daniels looks like the frickface in this story.

Lane is a clown, but he is doing the right thing here.

From the article I don't think that's what he's doing? I think he's essentially saying he's pissed his number has been given to someone so he wants LSU to stop using his NIL, not that the number itself his part of his NIL.
Though the article is a bit unclear.

Burrow won a Championship so that puts him on a way different level! JD is being a bitch here kinda throwing the race card when it's comparing apples to oranges.

I tend to agree with those suggesting it’s his mom behind the scenes. She’s quite the character.
Jayden is incredible but I don’t think it crossed anyone’s minds he should have his number retired at this point. Thanks for the cheezit bowl?

To be fair, I believe Daniels was told by Kelly his number wouldn’t be used, and Kelly honored Burrows request his number not be used. Daniels is loyal to Kelly.
Lane used his number as a recruiting tool, I'm sure Burrows number will be used too eventually.
All they are doing is sending a letter to LSU can’t use their NIL for recruiting. Gibbs did it to Bama. We had Jalen Ramsey do the same to A&M when Jimbo used his likeness at A&M for recruiting. There are more examples.
It’s not a big deal or money involved or courts, just Lane can’t use Daniels to recruit QBs or LSU can’t use his images in recruiting tweets.

Bobby Bowden un-retired a number to get a recruit.

It’s just an unreal position to take:
Guys: he specifically TOLD LSU he wanted his jersey retired, and they didn’t do it! And that feels bad!!!!

”Jayden made it clear that he did not want his number given to another player, and he believed his wishes would be respected. To see his number given to another player is incredibly disappointing and feels like a failure to honor the significance of what Jayden accomplished at LSU."

Cam Ward asked for Warren Moon’s number be unretired in the NFL recently. Social media went after Moon for not allowing Ward to use it. There was another example in the NFL. It’s a thing for the new players to request retired numbers.
In basketball: Tim Hardaway Sr. refused to unretire his No. 10 jersey with the Miami Heat so his son, Tim Hardaway Jr., could wear it after joining the team. Hardaway Sr. stated that his legacy in the rafters belongs strictly to his own career and told his son to forge his own path.
The kids also know damn well they are asking for specific numbers putting older players in public pressure to look lame if they say no on social media.

You dont ever retire the # but the player in the number while they are i school.
At this rate if he wins LSU wont have enough numbers to take the field.
Acknowledge Their Legacy but the numbers are off limits.
Daniels is risking his legacy at LSU. LSU ,ade him. He did not make LSU.
LSU has been around a long time and 1 player is not LSU. Not Cannon, Casanova, Burrow, Bert Jones, they are our history but they dont define LSU Teams now things change and the legacy is there for future stars to shine.
We never forget.

Also, aren’t jersey retirements typically after the respective player’s professional career is over? Besides Colorado retiring Travis Hunter (joke to be this early) I can’t imagine anyone retiring a kid’s number this early.

It’s a Gen Z thing to ask for retired numbers or ask for their numbers to be retired. Everyone just needs to tell them no and move on.
Tho in this case, Daniels number isn’t retired, it’s just an understanding apparent Kelly had with him and Burrow.

frick Daniels. He doesn’t own a number just like he doesn’t own their uniform colors. He is being a piss ant about it all while now in the NFL.
I hope some ex NFL player sues him for wearing a number in NFL.
Waste of time and money all to tarnish your own legacy. What a dumbass

Pickett was already on the roster before Lane got to LSU and the number was promised to him by Kelly and his staff.

What are you talking about? He’s not suing anyone. LSU just can’t use his likeness to recruits, like on Twitter or Instagram.
Why are you guys mad? Gibbs told Bama to stop using him too. Were you mad at Gibbs?

The way I understand is that Lane let him swap the number if you read the article. Or else he would have worn it last year under Kelly.
You are saying he always wore 5 last year with Kelly?

Kelly promised him #5 but never went through with it so in comes Lane and makes the kid happy due to that failed promise. JD comes off like a dick head here.
