Seems like he was joking a bit, although probably serious as well. Also seems a bit unprofessional from the reporter. He doesn’t work for her.

There used to be some strong exchanges of perspective between Saban and Louisiana fans before his success was established.
Coaching football for some teams in the SEC resembles coaching a NFL team in the NFC East. Until your resume is respected you will be heckled.

That joke sounded like something McElwain would've said. All that was missing was him talking about how fantastic Free Shoes' players are and talking about how "neat" and or "pretty cool" the game was.
