I hate Auburn, and I'm glad they suck again after they ran out of money. They deserve it. If I liked Auburn, god forbid, I would be demanding Roof gets roofied and disappears. Even Slick Willy Martinez would be an upgrade.

I don't know why AU can't get the stud silverback MLB considering the success we've had recruiting, but until we do things won't change. I believe our LB play over the last 3 years are the main reason things (on defense) have been the way the have..

Thanks for you the insight into your pathetic life, ranter.

LB? You put the blame on LB's more than DB's?
Posted on 11/14/11 at 11:06 pm to adammwilson
Watching the UGA game two days ago its easy to say that. I hate our Db's as much as anyone.. but you got to stop the run first in this league plus we've had the worst tackling LBs ever.

One of the worst moves Chizik has made was moving Bates to LB. I know we were thin at the time, but Bates is a disaster at LB. Not only does he play out of control, but he's what.. 5'10, 195?
Just dumb. Never understood this move.

Auburn has one committed for 2013 that's suppose to be really good, although it seems his commitment is dependent on the future of Roof...

Totally agree about Bates.. Should have kept him at safety. Next year LB play will be more of same.. Holland will get pushed around like a ragdoll and Bates will continue to do his thing.

Cassanova Mckinzy coming in looks good

Liked Bynes a lot.. bout the only one really but our D scheme requires the mlb to be somewhat decent in pass coverage, which Josh really lacked.
Bynes was the biggest part of shutting down the running game of our opponents RB's those years..

A couple of reasons not to do it (both have already been mentioned):
1) Transition time to get players in to run it correctly. When Muschamp was DC at Auburn, we started recruiting guys to implement a 3-4 under him. After a couple of years, he leaves and goes to Texas, we bring in Rhodes (then Chiz with Roof)who goes back to a 4-3. You then have players recruited to run a 4-3 playing in a 3-4 and kidss recruited to run a 3-4 playing in a 4-3. Just doesn't work unless you are going to be committed to it for the long run (ie the head coach and any assistants are 3-4 diciples).
2) Bama and UGA already run 3-4 defenses. With Boom at UF, I can see them moving to a 3-4 as well. That means that big schools in the 3 states Auburn recruits in will all be running a 3-4 and recruiting against AU for those players. I don't know much about Dooley's assistants, but with the Saban influence there you could (potentially) see UT switch as well which adds more recruiting competition in Georgia...
Much easier pickings for recruiting when you are running a scheme that your major competitors are not, plus more high schools run 4-3 so more experience/more kids to recruit in that scheme.

I miss the days of Karlos Dansby and Dontarrious Thomas. :sigh:
The Bull can provide similar run support but he looks like a wet fart in pass coverage.

We can't find 1 good LB, so I don't know how we are going to get 4.

The Tampa 2 is a excellent system just like any system when you have the right personnel....
A good Tampa 2 system...think '02 Tampa Bucs...
You need a D-Line that can rush the passer without having to blitz. A pass rusher at DT(Warren Sapp) and at DE(Simeon Rice). Must stop the run as well.
You need LB's that are fast and make tackles plus can play good zone defense(Derrick Brooks).
You needs CBs that play the run and MAKE TACKLES and have good ball skills on passes in their zone(Ronde Barber & Brian Kelly).
You need a safety who is smart and can come up and stuff the run but also plays very well over in his zone D(John Lynch) and you need a ball hawk(Dexter Jackson).
If you look back at the '04 Auburn D, it had all these elements. Could stop the run, could rush the passer with no blitz, played great pass D and made tackles in the back 7....
I can work, but I'm not sold on ted Roof. He needs to be replaced.

4/3 is just as good if not better then a 3/4. If you want a 3/4 you have to have a tackle to gobble up blocks in the middle and make lanes for you're lber's.
I prefer to get pressure with a front four.

I think a lot of people forget we've lost 5-6 guys on D this year to injuries that would be starting at this point. That is killing us.

If you have those kind of players, it won't matter what system you use

Just giving examples of how and why it worked. But those guys played in a system, and I don't think Barber and Lynch would have been great in any other system, IMHO...
