This is the end of the NCAA. A court in Virginia ruled today that athletes do not have to follow NCAA transfer rules. They can now transfer 100 times if they want or transfer mid-season.

The order is only in effect for 14 days, but lawyers are saying it will be permanent soon.

UPDATE:

NCAA responded and said they will no longer enforce the "1 year sit out" rule for multiple time transfers.

That is not what the court ruled. They only issued a TRO.

Yes, but that means the case brought has a very good chance of succeeding and it will be law soon enough.

It’s a signal of what’s coming.

NCAA about to be further gutted.

A TRO requires a showing of likelihood of prevailing on the merits.

These organizations are voluntary members of the NCAA and as such will abide by NCAA bylaws. The risk to the NCAA is if they take too hard of a stance then organizations can opt to leave.

Personally the NCAA needs to test this theory and resolve. Football is the only sport that doesn’t need the NCAA but the schools need the NCAA for all the other sports. Either for a football only deal or abide by the NCAA bylaws.

A lot of people don’t realize that rulings like this along with NIL are going to destroy college football. The small colleges with little funding will still exist but it’s going to be much more difficult holding onto players. I don’t think many athletes realize that bouncing from team to team may negatively affect their results on the field. I also have my doubts that the NIL gravy train will continue the track it is on.

Time for schools to opt out of the NCAA. Form a new organization.

With unlimited transfers and no rules whatsoever, I can imagine a million ways devious coaches will game the system.

It will be the end of CFB.

It won’t destroy it. There will be a much smaller collection of elite schools. The rest should form a separate championship including the big 12 and other mid conferences.

I see the transfer part. Did the court mention anything about playing eligibility, such as having to sit out a season?

And the hard-working coaches won't be able to build shite anymore. You gotta have a solid foundation to build a solid team, that's gets kicked to the curb with unrestricted transfers and unlimited NIL $$.

The ruling impacts folks who had their transfers denied while other transfers were waived. Inconsistent enforcement. May allow for annual transfers, but may only impact transfer players, not future (NCAA would have to go with NO waivers)

Exactly. The NCAA can still dictate eligibility to play.

Players can already transfer as much as they want.

Transfer yes, be eligible for play no. There is a distinction

Actually they can't - at least when it comes to transfer eligibility. As of now a player would still have to be meeting progress towards degree requirements, but the NCAA can no longer make someone ineligible just for multiple transfers.

You're joking but can you imagine Jalen Hurts, hurt by being benched, calls up his agent and say's 'I want to transfer now' and doesn't exit the locker room in the second half of the National Championship. LOL.
