I see schools like Arizona State dominating right now and was wondering if any SEC clubs could make the leap to division one.

Schools like UGA and Florida could because of the transplants nearby and history of nhl franchises. Not sure anywhere else could. Maybe Mizzou.

Never mind that no school would want to; facilities are expensive to keep up for a sport that wouldn’t generate much revenue for the travel needed to compete against northern schools

Would like it much, much more than the snooze fest that is wrestling, and probably more than the few notches up snooze fest known as soccer. We have a club team that plays at midnight locally (the rink is much cheaper at that time). It’s a rowdy good time.

Hockey is far better than either of those. Soccer is a useless sport

Florida could have a shot

UGa? Two failed NHL attempts make you think they’d support college hockey?

Hockey is for Yankees and Canadians. If you want to watch college hockey, move to Minnesota, the Dakotas or Boston.

Arkansas has a pretty good club team in hockey. Quite a few SEC schools have decent to good hockey clubs. The problem is three fold growing the sport here though.

1. Money. The SEC is loaded with cash, don't get me wrong, but convincing folks to spend a few million to get what would be a fairly lousy NCAA hockey team compared to say, hiring the best OC and DC in college football?

2, Talent. Shockingly the South is not the center for hockey development. It might be hard to lure people down from Mooseballs, Canada to Alabama.

3. Title 9. What female sport do we add? Competitive yoga?

No. If we are going to add niche winter sport then we don't go small potatoes. We go for the best niche winter sport of all time.

Curling.

It doesn't require large teams, the rules are fairly easy to understand, and once folks realize that its traditional to down a pint between throwing rocks it could catch on like wild fire in the South. Make it mandatory that competitors have a round of beers after every end and it would be ratings gold. And we can have women teams so that covers Title 9. Hell, drunken Coeds curling might become one of the more popular sports on the SECN.

Could you imagine a team full of coonasses piss drunk at the olympics talking shite and dominating this sport. This is something I can get behind.

They absolutely could. Alabama already draws a decent crowd and it's just a club team and they play 45 minutes away.

They failed because of shitty owners.

my question is.....why would SEC schools want to support men's hockey? There probably isn't a big recruiting base in the SE.

I would not only watch every moment of that, I'd record it to watch in the coming years. I want to see Ed Orgeron, damn near blackout drunk, trying to throw a rock on ice. Because you know that he'd somehow be a world champion at it.

Alabama's club team already currently has 7 players from Canada.
