All fanboy jock riding aside... Honest assessment. Could Nick win as Nebraska's head ball coach? Meaning, championships again in Lincoln. Go.

Absolutely. If he went to Nebraska for the '22 season, he'd have them in the playoff by the end of year three and assuredly win a title by the end of year six.

There's no reason to think that Nick Saban and his prowess will drop off until his late 70s.

He'd sign Top 10 classes. They'd be good pretty quickly and pretty consistently. They'd win that division every year. They'd be a consistent Top 10/15 team. Would he win national titles? I dunno.

If Nick Saban had gone to Nebraska in 2007 at 58 or whatever age he was? Yea, I feel pretty confident they'd be a national power right now again. Not like Alabama is now consistently, but they'd have been an every year Top 5-10 program with 1-2 national titles.

He would need several years to build the machine. Once he got everyone on board from the athletic department, boosters, corporate sponsors, and staff, then yes, I believe he would win and win big.

All Nick needs to win ANYWHERE is what he has been getting the last 12 years in Tuscaloosa:

SIGNING

$75,000 to $200,000

for EACH of about 23 recruits each year

= $4,000,000

4.2 classes X $4,000,000 = $16.8 million

RETENTION, PERFORMANCE, GIRLFRIEND/PARENT/HOUSES/CARS Double the $16.8 mil

Total spending on being a GOOD COACH - $33,000,000 [estimated]

I wouldn't call Lincoln the greatest place ever, but it's much better than some of those cities you've listed that I've been too.

Not like he is at Bama. Nebraska is underperforming now even considering recruiting however. They are only out recruited by OSU, Michigan and Penn State consistently in the Big 10.

Honest assessment.

#1 Walk ons
Nebraska football was like Kentucky basketball for generations but those days are gone

#2 East Coast
Again, UNL and UK got talent out of the East Coast but now in the B1G those kids are going to Michigan and Ohio State now. Hard to reverse that.

He could win if wins was defined as winning season in Lincoln but not if wins are defined as National Championships.

It blows my mind that a place like Nebraska can’t even recruit a top 15 class.

People like to dog on Nebraska and say there is no way a coach can get elite recruits to go there but if Oklahoma and Michigan can get good talent then Nebraska can too. If I were them I think I would go after the Kansas State coach. Won 5 consecutive championships at N. Dakota State and has done a good job at K State.

Name recognition & reputation - He's known as the GOAT. That alone would get him visits from most of the nation's top recruits, and perhaps more importantly, would make it easy to hire the coaches he wants.

Not only that, but having Nick Saban would inspire all of the boosters and donors to empty their pockets out, and go all in, believing in Saban's vision. He'd have 100% total control and confidence from the beginning.

All of these things would allow Saban to have success pretty much anywhere with a big enough fanbase and donor pool.

It also doesn't hurt that he's the best recruiter in the country.

OU is right up the road from DFW. Michigan has access to Ohio recruits plus Detroit & Chicago.

What’s the closest metro to Lincoln?
