Strongly doubt they drip either of them lower than 4 unless it’s a major blowout.
Agree, it would have to be a 63-0 type blowout for them to consider punishing either of them. My guess is that if Indiana wins, they just flip spots. Even if they do move the loser down further, it won't be out of a bye week position.

It’s all a moot point anyway. BYU isn’t beating TT. Their coach is on his way to be announced at Pennsylvania State

Vegas doesn’t guess on things like this. Those odds are inviting bets against Bama they know they won’t have to pay.
That the odds are so close on BYU and ND they’re hedging a BYU win over TT. Right now it’s very much looking like BYU or ND for the final spot

Yep Bama needs to beat GA to lock in the playoff and get a home game.
Probably get a bye(though for personal selfish reasons id love a home game)

Bama get a bye? I doubt that as I think the 1 loss regular season teams will stay in front of them.

Would love to see a Bama at OU rematch. They would lose again
Bro I was the the Bama/OU game 45 yard line lower level. I saw everything. Bama beat themselves that game and still only lost by 2 measly points to OU They play that match up 10 times this year Bama wins at least 7 maybe 8.

ND beat one ranked team, USC. I can almost guarantee that the committee will rank Navy tonight to give ND another ranked win

If Bama beats Georgia, they might end up with one of the four byes as SEC champion.
It would likely be between them and Texas Tech or Oregon. I don't think they'd reward Oregon who is sitting at home this weekend. If Texas Tech loses and Bama wins, Bama would easily slide into the 4 spot. If they both win, it would get down to parsing out the schedules, who knows how that goes.
How wild is this? Going into the Championship week, Bama could come out as the #4 seed, or miss the playoff altogether.

Remove TTU losing and to BYU for om.the equation and start a new analysis.

#8 gets a home game? Wow. I didn't realize this.
ETA
Makes sense.
1-4 BYE
5-8 Home
9-12 AWAY

It wouldn't surprise me if they have Bama jump ND now wanting to avoid controversy if that scenario happened.
Always possible, but I have been around long enough to know that the media loves ND and there would be a firestorm if ND does not make the playoffs. It'll be interesting for sure. And, btw, I am not saying you are wrong.

They will use losses against #6 and #12 to justify ND being in the playoff if they want ND in with a scenario like that. Curious to see the rankings when they come out.

Worth noting, I wouldn’t be shocked to see Miami jump over bama tonight
Bama is 10th and Miami 12th going into tonight’s ranking
Miami crushed the #22 team while bama struggled with a 5-7 interim coached Auburn
If the committee does that it saves them the “penalizing a conference loser” talk.

Who would you like to see LSU paired with in the CFP? Oh wait...

I really question why and how a team should be punished based upon conference championship games. If this is going to be the case why even play in them? Both and Georgia and Alabama both have more to lose if they intend to remove one. Teams such as ND, have it much easier since they have no playoff conference game and can waltz right in despite two losses, while Alabama is one of the top two teams in the conference and could lose their playoff spot, costing the conference lots of money. The conferences should just do away with the championship game if this is the kind of BS the committee wants to pull.

Ask Wisconsin in 2016
Guess who was sitting at home and leaped into the playoffs over those two conf champ game participants?

I dont think the committee will punish teams except in pretty rare cases for losing a conference championship game. What I think they will do is reward conference game winners - like putting Bama in front of OK and ND if they beat GA for the SEC giving them a home game playoff game,

if bama loses the seccg AND byu beats TT...there is a zero percent chance bama is in the playoffs.
That won't happen. It would completely destroy credibility for conference championships. Bama is in as of today, but can play their way out because they have to play an extra game unlike Ole Miss, Oklahoma, and ND that all have the same record but get to sit at home? Doing that would set a horrendous precedent. Bama is in 100%

quote:That loss to Florida St could be damning. LSU faced the same issue in 2022... with a couple differences.
Alabama ended the season #1 in the SEC, toughest conference in the nation. I don't think they get left out.
1) it wasn't a 12 team playoff yet
2) Name rec (Bama vs LSU, or anyone else). It's definitely a thing.
But this is Bama with Deboer, not Bama with Saban.
3) UGA was a clear #1 and stomped LSU; Bama beat UGA once this year already.
Still- taking a 3rd loss would lead to some extreme white-knuckle moments for Bama. We saw how the SEC championship loss knocked UGA out a couple years ago. Anybody BUT Bama, and it's a must-win game.

Why didn’t yall make threads then how it destroyed the sanctity of conf champ games?
