If theyre allowed to play 70s rules then the youngsters would get destroyed physically. Those were some dirty mfers.

Would be fun to watch modern offenses run all their crossing routes against old school safeties

There were unwritten but understood rules about the middle of the field back in the days

LSU couldn’t run the ball against Western Kentucky. You think we would run through the steel curtain or the purple people eaters?

Most of the college WRs would be out of the game after a couple of drives.

Even with the size advantage grown men will always be stronger, smarter and faster than college kids.

Mike Tyson was 20 and Muhammad Ali was 22 when they first became heavyweight champions of the world.

Usain Bolt was 21 when he first broke the 100 m. world record.

Tiger Woods was 21 when he won his first major, obliterating the field.

Rafael Nadal won his first Grand Slam at 19.

Arnold won his first Mr. Olympia at 23.

Jon Jones won his first UFC title at 23.

LeBron James averaged 20.9 ppg at 18 years old and 31.4 at 20.

Kobe Bryant won his first NBA title at 21.

You don’t have to be 30 years old to compete at the highest levels of a sport, and college players today know a hell of a lot more football than NFL players in the ‘70s. They run much more advanced schemes and are taught better technique by coaches with a 50 year advantage in the evolution of the sport.

I think I read, or saw on NFL Films, that Jim Brown NEVER missed a down of football when his team had the ball his entireprofessional career. Never a missed down for injury, rest or catch a breather.

Edit. With respect to which rules used. Regardless of rules NFL team will run the ball, control the clock, and beat the hell out of modern defense.
On the flip side, modern team with modern rules will have the passing advantage. Provided receivers didn't grow alligator arms as the defenders start head hunting out of frustration. All those DBs start going Jack Tatum on a "defenseless" receiver.

Another thing, what about PEDs? In the 70s steroids were rampant. 25-35 year old men all 'roided up vs. 18-23 year Olds without much PEDs.?

I would like to see a team with an OL averaging 260 lbs. line up in essentially nothing but 21 personnel and beat the hell out of these guys.

This is just dumb.

They run more "advanced schemes" only because the rules have changed to favor the offense more, not because people were ignorant of them 50 years ago.

The "modern" pass route system was actually developed by Don Hutson back in the 1930s. First at Alabama winning a Rose Bowl/NC doing it, then later in the NFL.

So once again, which set of rules are you going to play by.

The punishment and physicality of the teams of the 70’s would absolutely smoke a modern day college team. No rules back then to protect players from hits to the head, chop blocks, close line tackles and other ways that are barred today. It would be fun to watch.

Dude...think of how many players get drafted each year.

Now think of how many of those players make starter.

So you have the cream of the crop starting. The best of the best 11 guys. Against a college team that might have 4 or 5 players drafted high.

Only a few of which break second string.

No. No college team would have a chance in HELL at touching even the worst NFL teams of that age. The scout teams would beat most of them, and thats including the greats like 2019 LSU and 2011 bama.

Dont think you realize how many college teams start guys that will never see the NFL. Theyd have their necks broken.
