It’s a fair question. Prior to the season 247 did a comprehensive breakdown of roster talent. Alabama was deemed to have the most talented roster in college football. Heck, by this metric, Pawwwll, they have the most talented roster in the history of talented rosters.

The roster has insane levels of talent. The Gumps have EIGHTEEN 5 stars and 56 4 stars . Their composite score is 94. 49.

quote:

The Crimson Tide have ranked No. 1 in this metric all but two years of its existence (2018, 2020). But even by those lofty standards, their 2023 roster is historically talented. The average player on Alabama’s roster had recruit average of 94.49, which is the highest mark in Team Talent Composite history. For context, a 94.49 rating would equate to the average player on Alabama’s roster ranking as the No. 100 overall player in the country most years. The Crimson Tide are ridiculously loaded on paper.

Yet the Tide can’t complete a forward pass, can’t throw a block, can’t keep their QB upright. I would argue that when you account for roster depth and then compare it to the absolute futility of this team, they may be the worst coached team of all time. Listless, unorganized, without an identity or a plan . They show no fight and stand around waiting for someone else to make something happen. Where the actual frick is the coaching? What is Tiny Nick doing over there besides accepting compliments , gazing at his statue and doing television commercials? I for one really hate to see it.

Give them a serviceable QB and they are pretty good. At this point, I think they’ve got to go with Milroe. He at least kept them in the game with Texas. Neither Simpson nor Buchner would do that. Buchner may be the worst power 5 QB in the country. Saban really has to be questioning Rees’ judgment after convincing him to transfer.

Lets be honest, we have “serviceable.” Most teams in the country would kill to have their choice of 3 4 stars and a 5 star to QB their team. The OL and receivers have continued their poor play from last season that Bryce Young overcame, and this team is what you get with serviceable QB play instead of elite QB play. Milroe could go put up video game numbers at a school like TCU.

Not sure why anyone is saying worst coached?

I mean it may end up that way in the offense.

The defense and special teams are outstanding.

That OLine is fat and slow. Saban needs to adjust his recruit evaluation staff and criteria. I’m guessing EVERY SINGLE player on that line was handed at least a 1star ‘BamaBump’

These players aren’t necessarily 4/5* talent. Deserved or not, they all get a bump when Saban pursues them. It’s been proven.

The head man, bro? Who hired those offensive coaches? Who coaches the coaches? Who manages and oversees the team ? If half the coaches and the head coach are failing, with a historically LOADED roster, isn’t it a historically poorly coached team ? I mean, just objectively?

The OL is shocking to me moreso than the QB. WRs and backs are also average.

The defense isn’t bad but probably not the dominating force you would expect given their recruiting rankings. The have like 6 five star edge rushers but it doesn’t show all the time.

It just goes to show how important QB play is in today's game. Bama still has a great defense. Maybe not 10 years ago great, but still 2nd best in the SEC which is going to keep them in every conference game this year due to no one separating themselves except for maybe Georgia. I wish LSU played them this week because as the season goes on I believe Milroe will be good enough to beat every team on their schedule. If Milroe played yesterday they probably score 30+.

The OL is almost comical. Especially compared against all that camp “ Murderball” propaganda.

He's engineering his retirement at the end of the season.

What in the blue frick are you talking about? You have a historically great roster. It literally says it in the first post. So are you retarted or do you not read well?

I'm a bit confused because when UGA QB's do well on offense, it's because "any QB would look good surrounded by all that talent", but when Bama QB's struggle, the Bama QB's are "serviceable" but the surrounding, more talented players are just "playing poorly" and that serviceable QB's look bad when surrounded by that.

Doesn't that suggest coaching might be the issue... or very poor recruiting evaluations which also comes back to coaching.

A&M had top 5 talent last year and won 5 games… Tap the breaks on “worst coached ever.”

A good QB would have them rolling. Not the worst coaches team, but they failed to reload at QB pretty badly.
