The apology should be located at the same place as the offending material. No need to further publicize the offensive comments to those that never saw them. JMO.

ETA: Although an apology should have also come from the guy who wrote the offending pieces.

EATA: This was posted a few minutes ago (to much deflecting for my taste, but it is something):

quote:

With our commitment to serve Insiders as quickly and relevantly as possible, for a brief moment earlier today we lost our sense of what matters most.

We recognized and addressed our insensitivity within 20 minutes, and we apologize to everyone, especially the family, friends, teammates and fans of Aaron Douglas.

I disagree - once it was stated, it was circulated publicly - the appology from both ESPN and that toolbag should have been public as well.

I heard the local Sheriff that was interviewed on the radio down there. Said he was with friends til around 1130pm the night before and left them to go to another party. Said alcohol was consumed, weed and perhaps other drugs. When people there woke this morning, they found him deceased on the balcony. Said it didn't appear to be foul play, but investigation would be done.

eta - jatebe has official release on previous page, didnt see it.

Pretty ridiculous of Low to mention Tennessee fans calling him a traitor and Kiffin his article. Lost a lot of respect for him there. He was a good writer for a while but lost it when he started handling the SEC blog. Any fanbase would call a player a traitor if left for their hated rival. Not saying it's right, but that wasn't the root of his problems. He needed help. Pain killers are a serious problem, and there's too much of it floating around.

Edit: And in my opinion he was probably surrounded by a bunch of people who weren't willing to step in and tell him getting his shite together was more important than football since he obviously had an NFL future. That includes Tennessee, Alabama, his high school, his parents, and everyone else. The pressure to succeed in football could've been put into getting clean instead. If Tennessee fans knew he had a problem, then the coaches should have as well.

I believe that was a quote from his JC coach, not Low adding his own personal perspective to it.

This just makes the chip on Alabama's shoulder even bigger. Combine this with the tornadoes and the aftermath that followed and the Tide squad will have a massive chip on their shoulder this season. Before you rip me, I'm well aware that a life is not as important than football. I was just making an observation.

Well as long as Bama wins it all.

I certain the grieving of families affected by both tragedies will surely stop immediately upon the hoisting of the trophy.

I mean, lsu people affected by Katrina could not make peace for 2 years later until 2007 when the trophy was hoisted. The same tragedy affected NO and The Who Dat Nation, but they found peace when the Saints won the SuperBowl 4 years later.

I also am certain people affected by 911 could not rest easy until they beat the Pats in the SuperBowl 6 years later.

Why do some Gumps, most uneducated, have so much trouble separating real life from football.

Sad story. I hope the family can find peace at some point.

I don't think anyone is saying that. I just think that tragedies like these often find their way into things outside of everyday life.

Regardless of how he died, he died too young. Thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and teammates.
