Washington is two seasons removed from playing in the NC and they’re no longer considered a competitive program? I think you have to have them listed.

Yea, I was on the fence with them. I felt that success was majority michael penix and Kalen DeBoer. And deboer jumped ship for the sec as soon as he could.

quote:how can you say this yet have Florida as one of the competitive teams listed in the OP?
I think Miami can win some games and be in a playoff hunt position. But they are not capable of beating an elite level team, especially in november/december.
Miami has better NIL, coaching, and access to talent and is much better historically than Florida and currently is way ahead of the gaytors

How so lsu hasn't won a playoff game

Arizona State gave Texas all they could handle last year.

Does Miami have better NIL? I don't really know how to look that up.
But anyway, yes, Miami is seeing a resurgence right now and is looking better. And Florida has been slumping since the glory years of Tebow and Urban. However, Miami has not been close to winning a championship. If they manage to string together a nice season, they get blown out by a real program. So where it might seem that Miami is doing so much better than Florida, they actually aren't. And here are some key facts:
2024 Miami
10-3
Pop Tart Bowl Loser
SOS: 61st
Big Wins: Florida & Duke
Finished the season disappointing 1-3
2024 Florida
8-5
Gasparilla Bowl Winner
SOS: 1st
Big Wins: LSU & Ole Miss
Finished the season trending up 4-0 with 2 ranked wins and a rivalry game blowout
This comes down to how bad of a conference the ACC is. SEC teams completely strip and rebuild a program in an attempt to win a championship. Florida is in the middle of that and has to play Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, and Ole Miss. They had a True Freshman QB and finally started to show progress after 3 hard years. Miami plays in weak conference, had an experienced roster with a talented 5th year senior transfer QB and really didn't perform that much better.
University of Miami has about 3x less students than Florida. The Hurricanes play in an NFL stadium 45 mins away from campus. The Gators play in the Swamp right in the middle of campus. If you think that doesn't matter, you're wrong.
Despite Florida's recent poor performance, and Miami's "success" they are recruiting at comparable levels.
2025 Recruiting Rankings:
Florida - 9th
Miami - 13th
2024 Recruiting Rankings:
Florida - 7th
Miami - 6th
2023 Recruiting Rankings:
Florida - 13th
Miami - 8th
2022 Recruiting Rankings:
Florida - 17th
Miami - 13th
This is because kids would rather lose in the SEC than get cupcake wins in the ACC and still no title. These private schools are also struggling to keep up with public universities due to smaller fanbases and less public funding.
I really just don't see Miami being a contender. They will sign some flashy recruits and transfers, because Miami is a cool place to live. But they can't build a roster that is capable of winning in this current CFB environment. Florida is capable, and will be good this year. I bet they have that Miami game circled on the schedule, should be a fun one.

I just don't see Auburn as a year-in, year-out contender. We can agree to disagree if you want.

2 loss cotton bowl champs? I don't really see these magical seasons you infer.

This list has nothing to do with winning a playoff game. It's strength of programs and ability to win a championship in the current system.

Does Miami have better NIL?
quote:it might matter a little but Miami has boosters who actually drop bags while Gaytor boosters cry about recruits wanting too much $ anytime a real program stuffs sunbelt billy into a locker on the trail

quote:no Florida is not capable. Especially in the money ball nil era. Too cheap and apathetic to compete. And if 5-7 is “good” I guess it’s relative since sunbelt billy is capable of going 3-9 with this year’s schedule

And yet both Miami and fsu have better recruiting classes than Florida, despite FSU going 2-10 last year
Florida football is a dead program

lol. I guess you are going to side step all the valid facts and state unverifiable claims about how great miami is. Florida out recruited FSU and Miami this year in both recruits and transfers. I guess you are cherry picking 2026 rankings which isn't close to being official yet. We'll see how many recruits miami holds onto when they lose to syracuse and georgia tech again.
In this quick searching i've done Florida actually has a larger NIL collective than FSU. Miami is unlisted because they are private but the average for the ACC is 10M.
Florida - 15.8M
FSU- 10.0M
Miami - Unranked
What recruits is Miami getting over Florida? Pulling up the 2025 recruiting list of kids from Florida, i have to scroll down to the 17th best kid before i see a miami commit. Of the top 20 recruits from Florida, here are the destinations:
Florida - 5
Florida State - 2
Miami - 1
Everything you are saying is factually incorrect.
Florida went 8-5 last year and returns a significant portion of the team. Their schedule is of course #1 in difficulty again, so who knows what will happen. But, if they were in the ACC they would probably be expected to go 10-2 or 11-1.

One team improved and kept its QB and the other team regressed and lost their QB. Hell, even Vegas currently has Florida with a better shot to win the natty over Miami this szn. Not sure what ya'll are smoking.

Miami might not be a a competitive program, but you can't disqualify them from your list and then include Florida in it.
I'd say they're about equal at best, with Miami having a slight edge currently since they have a much better coach.
