Kirby is exactly right, a commissioner really wouldnt have any power to change things. CFB is gonna have to find a way to rid themselves from the jurisdiction of the court systems. Otherwise you are always gonna have some rogue judge saying that you cant make any rules.
The conferences need to get together, hire a bunch of lawyers and craft organizations in an unassailable legal manor. This will be contracts with shared revenue with players and legal agreements amongst the programs to not engage in free agency. Maybe a commissioner will help but really hed just be a figurehead that talks to the press

Tried both of those over Christmas for the first time, both pretty good. Going to buy little guy a new Bball goal today or tomorrow for Christmas…might do it at Academy just for Pate and get the big league chew too (had to really search for the chew last time at Academy, it wasn’t in the checkout line like JP said it would be).
Agree that it’s a great show and I’m a Dawg fan for this CFP. Some Bama fans don’t want Kirby/UGA to have a “dynasty” or approach Saban’s NC wins, but I’ll always be thankful for Kirby’s time at Bama. UGA plays UT and AU every year, and it seems better than rooting for Texas in their first year. So, Go Dawgs

Amazing. 5 below is the low key spot for big league chew, all the flavors.
I think if Saban does become CFB commissioner it would be Kirby that benefits most, like Saban did with Sankey. Better for Saban that his disciple succeed than a successor at Bama.

what I don't understand is how the very FIRST case ever made it as far as it did (and thereby opened the door for the shitstorm we have now). Like years ago when some 19 year old whined to the courts that he felt like he should be paid and it's not fair that he isn't, why did a court even entertain that? Seems like they would just laugh and say "why are you bringing this here? You're an amateur, that means not paid. Bye"

Sabans were at the Bama/South Dakota St basketball game yesterday, so think he’d be pretty fair to Bama. He seems to still have fond memories of LSU and decent relationships with Sark, Kirby, and even Kiffin at this point. Think he’d be pretty fair to the whole SEC as time heals all wounds.

Saban would be the best candidate. He would cap the spending and focus on development of players that must commit to a program.

If you are looking for a former coach from the state of Alabama to do something concrete to fix NIL and the transfer portal, you are looking in the wrong direction. Any practical fix is going to require an Act of Congress in order create an exception under the anti-trust laws. Sen. Tommy Tuberville is more likely to be the key to getting that done than Nick, although the two might well work together on the issue, if some kind of cross party consensus can be reached.

Serious question and response please. What would a commissioner of college ball be legally empowered to do? Where would his authority and legal enforcement powers come from? Would he or she be a glorified facilitator with no real power?
Just curious. ??. I don’t see Sankey, big ten guy, Acc guy, Big 12 guy giving up any power to Nick Saban. (Satan)

Because the courts are full of activists instead of judges. The Universities only have themselves to blame though. They cashed in on 100 years of tradition and pageantry to turn their programs into money making entities to enrich themselves. Just giving the players the revenue from the video games or something like that should have been done years ago

He would be great but why would he leave his current gig (which he seems to absolutely love) to eat this shite sandwich?
I have to imagine the majority of this job would be listening to commissioners, ADs and coaches bitch about college football and having little or no power to actually do anything about it.

I bet you picked Bama to be in didn’t you?
Well, then don’t lose by 21 to a 6-6 team. Also, don’t lose 3 games to shitty teams

You know, don’t you, as I pointed out in another thread, that any “college football commissioner,” whether it’s Nick Saban or Nick Jonas, would be subject to and obligated to comply with all of the court orders that have gotten us to this point.
College football fans are so in love with the idea of someone large and in charge laying down the law about how things are going to be and disempowering these uppity players, they don’t understand that no knight on a white horse is going to ride in and single-handedly fix this.

No way. Saban isn't trustworthy enough to be unbiased towards the gumps.

Bro, this isn’t about Bama no matter how much you want it to be. This about SMU not deserving to be in over any number of teams, especially 3 SEC teams that actually proved they could play with the big boys and were very close to having a better resume than the #2 CFP team. SMU had no business being anywhere near the playoffs without winning the ACC. If Clemson didn’t take their foot off the gas in the 2nd half, they wouldn’t have been.

If you think we'd cry if Saban was commissioner, then you do suffer from Tiger Derangement Syndrome. We need someone to rein this crap in.
