From Aschoff's on ESPN interviewing Coach Mason last week:

"I'm not guaranteeing victory, but if you're thinking we're not going to win, well, then you're fooling yourself because I think this team is ready. People talk about if you win this, but our guys are in the mindset of we're gonna win this game – when we win this game. That's a mindset of somebody's who's hungry. We have to be defiant. People might be saying things, but nobody really believes that we're gonna beat Kansas State. You know what, that's OK. We don't need people to believe what we're capable of. We know what we're capable of, and that's something you can't fake or give guys."

Just take out the "Kansas State" and replace it with "Bama." I officially speak for Coach Mason on this matter, or at least I would if he deigned to reply to my phone calls, texts, Grindr invitations, or fruit baskets. I'm going to bed but you're on notice, Gumps.

Good luck to your commodores.

They'll need it.

There are few truths in an uncertain world but here's one:

This ain't KSU.

Do you expect your coach to publicly state that he thinks his team is going to lose?

No, but I wouldn't expect the head coach at Vanderbilt to indirectly say they'll beat Bama, because well, they have no chance.

He already said it on McElroy and Spears's new show.

You know something? Judging from the serious replies to a clearly lighthearted troll post in the week before the game, I'm starting to wonder if they're secretly worried about us after all. Kind of weirds me out that they seem to be reluctant to banter.

Who knows? And, honestly, who cares? We've dealt with UT fans for long enough, and they're basically the same except their football team is actually really freaking good.

Would not shock me one bit. Vandy is well coached. It's college and anything can happen

I really pegged Mason wrong after his first season. He seems to really be a good coach.

I don't have any problem with the confidence. Vandy is overmatched almost every SEC game, but they can't come in there expecting to lose. Looking forward to the game and Nashville.

I like it. Very scrappy attitude. Anchor down!

Alabama will be very fortunate to beat such a good team on the road! Roll damn Tide!

Not predicting a Vandy win but Bama fans sleeping on them are going to get a surprise, they are very well coached and play excellent fundamental football.

The Tide is in for a much bigger dogfight than most seem to realize.

I think you posted in a thread I started Saturday night. I'm hugely concerned about this game.

What does this mean? They keep it within 3 touchdowns?

It means that this game could stay one or two scores into the second half before Bama's massive depth and raw talent advantage show. It very well could be a 20+ point victory for Bama, but I would say it's very realistic the score is close through 3 quarters. The game will likely never be in doubt from start to finish, but it likely won't be a trouncing.
