So if Clowney goes to South Carolina and has 50 sacks and 100 TFLs in his career he still wouldn't get the same recognition or get drafted as highly as he would if he went to Bama and gave 75 of that production?

Bama fans really do think college football revolves around them.

Every time Alabama recruits a "rush end" in another state, the local fanbase automatically attacks Alabama's style of defense. Nevermind the number of NFL teams now using it. The point being, Alabama's 3-4 is perfect for a guy like Clowney. Our base is a 3-4, but we play several four man fronts in nickel and dime (60% of the time), with the "Jack" LB (Clowney's recruited position) moving to DE.

Let's be honest, USCe was very lucky that UT, UF, and UGA were all terrible last year.

And Florida got lucky when they won the NC a few years back when they had to play 4 7-5 teams too, right?

the second best team in the east was a really down florida team... uga and ut were 6-7

USC had a decent year but they were really fortunate to have the competition they did in the east this year - I don't think there can be much debating that the east in 2010 was as bad as it has ever been since the SEC went to 12 teams

Dude, let's not act like I'm being ridiculous. USC has had one good year, ever, and it coincided with everyone else in the east being WAY down.

What makes you so sure you're suddenly going to "contend for years to come"?

We'll see I guess.

Either way, we get Clowney. Done. Enough said.

and if we keep winning the East will it be because the rest of the schools are down? If that's the case then hell Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee only won those titles because we were down. DEAL WITH IT.

If he plays for us, he knows what he will be . He'll have his hand on the ground rushing the passer. No Jack this or Jack that. Our defensive line wasn't all world this year and we managed to lead the SEC in sacks

I'm sorry if this offends you - but can you really argue the East was worse than it has ever been?

If USC wins the East regularly they will get their respect. (And no one hates USC other than Clemson - don't mistake skepticism or indifference for dislike)

You arn't considered 'down' if it is your normal place in the east.

Can't argue with facts so you're correct in that regard. Either way, ya gotta start somewhere. We did something in 2010 we've never done before and I don't see that being any different for years to come.

Clowney will be another piece of the puzzle. Hopefully.

Georgia and Tennessee haven't always won the East. Maybe they are in their "normal place".

Things do change in college football, you know this right?

30 years ago Oregon wasn't doing shite on the national level. They played for a National Title this year.

Before I make this statement, I just want to get this out of the way and say that I like South Carolina (as a state and football program).

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I'll say this: South Carolina will NEVER consistently compete for SEC championships with historical powers such as Georgia and Tennessee in the same division. Yes, Florida's success has been more recent than the two aforementioned programs, but there is no way Florida doesn't end up back on top sometime soon with the vast amount of resources at their disposal.

There, that's my $0.02

Tennessee is the second most tradtiion rich school in the SEC. I think 75 years is enough of a sample to say they won't remain where they are.

Georgia will always have talent. They just need fire from their coaching staff again.

Florida has been Florida since the mid-80s. With their talent base, they're not going anywhere. Most of Saban's former assistants have done well. I suspect Muschamp will too.

And as for the SEC East as a whole, until last year, no one but UT, UF, or UGa had won the division. Until USCe does it again, it's going to be considered a lucky year for them to have won it. You don't build a legacy in one season.

this is real simple: he wants to stay close to home (USCe) but he also wants to win a National Title (Alabama). USCe will probably win out because he'll leave as a junior anyways.
