TIL DKR uses turf. I learned their baseball field used turf over the spring/summer (what's up with your wack arse diamond?) but did not know the football field is also turf.

Why?

Because Texas is way too poor to afford the maintenance for a grass field

2008ish season, there was heavy rain the day before a game, and the field got fricked for the rest of the season. turf installed for 2009

One of the ugliest playing surfaces I've ever seen.

The people that made that decision definitely were. Most of us hated it if you don’t smell freshly manicured natural grass when you walk in a stadium it doesn’t feel right.

They couldn't grow grass.

Then we found a real turf management team and got actual grass.

Texas cant grow grass still. It is pretty sad.

So install industrial drainage systems like LSU and Alabama.

Football should be played on grass, especially in the South where you don't have the winter excuse for having a dome.

Kentucky, the “Bluegrass state”, uses turf. That makes zero sense

I always heard either the last or second to last stint of artificial at Ole Miss was due to Archie and/or Cooper being investors in some artificial turf company that Ole Miss just happened to use.

ETA:

An Ole Miss friend that is part a booster family for decades told me this, but I've heard it from others as well.

It was due to an ongoing fungus on the field killing the grass.

It was plenty advanced

LSU did it in the early 90s first then improved it in 2020 -

Texas could also just go back to grass now. Why not?

Speaking of grass I need a state fan to tell me where I can get their seed blend so I can put it in my yard their field is damn good looking.

Kentucky has winter weather which kills off Bermuda.

That one is obvious.
