Two teams on that list have won a national championship in the last 20 years.
TWO
I see a 6 basketball titles in there. I'd assume sports apparel companies think that is important.

Like NERDS from outside the state and county buy athletic gear
GA Tech was the very first program to sign with Underarmour. Having the 8th largest metro area in the US pegged down is nice as well. Since Nike has Auburn and Georgia already, getting a foothold there is necessary.

Just looked and it appears LSU's Nike deal doesn't expire until 2036 and apparently, it only pays $5.75 M per year. Doubt we can negotiate it but seems like a steal for Nike.
I think that's because LSU negotiated that $ go to signing athletes to NiL deals instead of cutting a check to the school. LSU is fine financially so they secured the bag for the recruits.

Auburn’s deal with Nike has not been made public because the deal is ran through a non profit but is said to be “one of the top” deals for a Nike team.

GTU was like the last holdout still wearing Russell Athletic. There were already several colleges wearing Under Armour when they made the switch. Maryland, Navy, South Carolina, and Auburn were all Click Clacking before the nerds were.

Congrats to your team on the deal which is a nice one. I did not realize the program had such value. I am always glad for success.

This is probably the listing of schools with the most recent deals, which would lead to bigger numbers. Also, Adidas… lulz

This
Miami’s deal with Adidas ended.
It freed up $20 million.
Other schools already under contract.
Adidas gambling Ole Miss will be successful.

That’s how much the prior deal which expired last year was. It was recently negotiated through 2036 for an undisclosed amount, along with the whole NIL partnership.
Lots of universities don’t disclose how much their athletic apparel deals are

As it has been mentioned, many schools have allowed their Foundations to manage the apparel deals, which keeps the investment private.
In addition, many of the same schools have NIL deals that allow direct investment to NIL funds and collaboration (exclusive members to Nike Blue Ribbon Elite deal include: LSU, Bama, Texas, USCe) and direct deals with individual athletes. I had seen LSU, Bama and UGA are top 3 in that order with direct Nike deals for individual athletes.
All that to say, the list in the OP isn't a full picture of apparel industry investment into athletic programs.

Exactly. It’s definitely misleading.
