My point is it's very difficult to make this meaningful and be objective at the same time.

You're right about that.

I have been interested for years in program rankings and reading others' opinions on the matter. The major issue which makes ranking programs impossible to please everyone is the issue of dealing with the past/present.

Some folks don't see any value in Notre Dame's or Tennessee's past accomplishments... while others point simply to the number of trophies in the case and therefore value Minnesota's 4 NC Trophies more than Michigan's 2.

There has to be balance. So it hit me yesterday to do a sliding scale. I applied it, and these are the numbers it spit out.

As a Georgia fan, I'd love to see Georgia ahead of both Auburn and Tennessee.... in fact, I think I'd take our past/present circumstances right now over either of theirs. But the only way to be objective is to create a formula that you think is fair, and then live by the results.

If Georgia wins a title in the next few years, we'll move up the ranks quickly.

Nah. If uga still wasn’t higher with a much less flawed system, I would have no problem with it. Heck, A better system might not even move uga up.

Agree 100%. ND, USCw, Mich, Tenn or even Neb mean nothing to kids these days unless they grew up rooting for them or they get a coach ike Pete Carroll at USCw.

Nice rock reference as well.

Other schools will emerge but it will be because of killer recruiting to get it going and maybe hit on a special player....like Deshaun Watson for us.

Texas seems to be more suited for the second group.

Just to show how valuable a National Title can be...

Had Georgia beat Alabama, we'd have 509 points... which would be ahead of Auburn and we'd likely be just a season away from passing Tennessee.

Likewise, had Auburn pulled out the win in 2013 against Florida State, they'd have 540 points... which would put them ahead of Tennessee and possibly just a season or two away from also passing both Penn State and Florida.
If LSU won the title in 2011, we would be in the cusp of being a blue blood......

Only 11 points behind Texas

Then you come up with your own system, genius. Let's see it.

How? Georgia and Auburn have the exact same number of AP Poll Points, going all the way back to 1936. Auburn has 2 National Titles to Georgia's one (major polls only). Georgia leads slightly in a few other categories, but none by enough to overcompensate for Auburn's extra National Title. It's going to be close anyway you slice it, but IMHO Auburn gets the very slight nod after 2010.

They've had almost nothing to show for since 2009.... its reaching a critical point for their program. If they don't do something in the next year or two, they are going to be lumped in with Tennessee.

That can’t be hard to do with some tweaks to your idea.

Nobody agrees with you, man, let it go. Georgia will get its recognition when it wins an NC. Until then accept your lumps, kid.

You don’t agree with me even when I prove you wrong with facts, so that’s not saying much.

Yawn the schools you listed won a natty more recently than uga except Michigan. And all schools you mentioned have more prestige than uga to this day. Yall better learn from the bluebloods not to get to cocky. As much as ppl love to rag on UT. Nobody can deny how much more humble that university is today compared to pre 2010. Im glad UT has toned it down.

I'd probably restructure it a bit:

quote:

THE BLUE BLOODS
Tier 1 - Alabama- 1182 points

Tier 2 - Oklahoma- 933
Tier 2 - Ohio St.- 905

Tier 3 - USC- 809
Tier 3 - Notre Dame- 808

Tier 4 - Michigan- 716
Tier 4 - Nebraska- 713

THE REST OF THE ELITE:
8. Texas- 639
9. Florida State- 606
10. Miami- 604
11. LSU- 577
12. Florida- 550
13. Penn State- 549
14. Tennessee- 514
15. Auburn- 489
16. Georgia- 458

IMO Blue Blood is indicative of a program that is highly unlikely to be replaced at the top anytime soon if ever. The Top 7 teams have that distinction to varying degrees. Texas could very well be jumped by Miami or FSU in the next 5 years depending on how the Richt, Taggart, and Herman eras go.

The teams in Tiers 2, 3, and 4 are all going to remain Blue Bloods for the forseeable future and may pass one another within that tier but are unlikely to jump up a tier barring a dynastic run of sorts along with teams ahead of them tanking
