That only started in the 1970s. Prior to that, the Sugar had both slots at-large.

because they haven't done shite for nearly a century?
and Princeton's 28 national titles should be acknowledged? then Harvard, Princeton, and Yale are the greatest football programs of all time.

I agree. In the 30ss you had teams like Fordham, Iowa pre-flight, Cornell, Saint Mary's, Duquesne, Villanova and Carnegie-Mellon as top 30 programs.

Bryant pushed to have the Sugar Bowl the permanent tie-in for the SEC.

PAC 12 people like to pretend that Oregon has been a power forever

Very true

Wow...that's some dumb shite you're posting.

Oregon was one of the worst teams of all time in the 80's and wasn't much better before. From 1920 to 1988 the Ducks appeared in 4 bowl games and didn't make another Rose Bowl (since 1920) until 1994.

Everyone in the Pac knows Oregon is new money.

And Bama can't be #1 playing a segregated schedule. Of course it's easy to beat up on fellow white boys and claim titles over teams you lost to that season (ND and USC) but what else is new for the most shameless program in title counting.

if you wanna get real with it, anything before integration started happening in '67/'68 should be it's own category.

I'd agree...I'll take it one step further.

"Modern college football" IMO started with uniform scholarship limitations in the early 70's.

Not much to say about arse To Mouth being ranked higher.

Its simple...They're getting credit for a national title nearly 100 yrs ago and one nearly 80 years ago.

They also won the SWC 2 times after we left, won the Big 12 once. Their last "big bowl" is 1999 where they lost to Ohio State. They haven't had a 10 win season in 12 years and haven't had back to back ten win seasons in 17 years.

Not at all.

Anyone with an ounce of football knowledge knows aTm is one of the most underachieving programs of all time.

No national championships in modern era football. Located in one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the nation, yet wallowed in mediocrity for most of its being.

Meanwhile, Texas has continued to win national titles, conference titles, and had 10 ten win season in the last 17 years.

Being in a major bowl is a big part of what adds to a programs prestige though

I think you should only get points for actually winning them though.
