The list also has UNO ahead of Tulane, which is absurd.

LSU is a Tier 1 research institution. LIGO and CAMD (google them to complicated to explain) are just a couple of examples of what is actually going on at LSU. Things like this probably pushed them ahead in the research and publication part of the grading.

These are the definitive school rankings according to most academics

Lulz. It's amazing how many "definitive" rankings there are according to academics. The company who produces these rankings was founded 4 years ago in Saudi Arabia. Definitely a long track record of identifying the elite programs.

The earliest "world university ranking" organization is the Shanghai Ranking (ARWU), which has been doing it since the early 2000s I believe. Even still, not really a long history to look at to point to accuracy.

Not surprisingly, you would prefer to ignore this though, as it places UT Austin at 37 globally, and A&M at 100. Vandy - 53, UF - 83, UGA - 150ish

Carry on.

People will mock LSU being 4th. And don't get me wrong, F.uKing Alexander has done a tremendously shitty job, but LSU's programs in business, mass communication, and engineering are all top notch. The Medical and Law schools are considered some Of the best schools based on cost of attendance, and the internal auditing program is the best in the country.

Above all else, as recently as 2003 LSU was statistically the most diverse university in the U.S.

UAB is ranked #147. University of Alabama at Birmingham, one hundred forty-seven in the world.

That seems like dubious criteria at best. 99.99% of students at most schools aren't going to become CEOs of the world's top companies.

Yup. Heavily favors programs with elite business schools, since it's significantly less likely that someone with a degree in biology, forestry, or art are likely to be a CEO at a "top company".

Care to elaborate? It's not like that list of schools places UGA significantly higher or anything, though it does move LSU down pretty significantly.

Either way, all of the rating systems have their own issues. We need a 247 composite version of university rankings.

Link, though? Or is this from some...what's the word? dammit, my half-senile granddaddy was just yammering on about it the other day....um..."physical paper"? does that sound like a real thing? I'll check with him next time he's lucid, but I'm pretty sure he was saying they used to have sources of information they could actually hold in their hands back when he was a kid, and he called it "paper". People hear that word all the time in phrases like "paper tiger" or "paper trail" but most don't know what it used to actually mean.

Doesn't bother me. In the long run, even the most "objective" survey of this sort has inherent subjectivity, and if subjectivity is the issue, I'd say we have the best reputation when it comes to hiring. Florida does have the advantage of being both a great school and a large school, so networking will favor them out of sheer numbers. There are advantages to going to highly-rated larger universities, and that's undeniably one of them.

Georgia and Mizzou are very similar schools, but how da frick did LSU jump above Mizzou and Georgia, two vastly better schools than LSU?

List not legit.

I see aggy's being lapped by UT Austin and two UT System medical schools (Dallas and Houston).

Y'all need to get your shite together if your system wants to keep its PUF money ("the oil money").

A friend of mine (he would know) said the University of Houston almost got that one-third in the 1970s. Y'all had just stopped being an all-white institution but it took you a bit longer to come around on women.
