In 2016, Herman was a big name due to his offense. LSU wanted Herman as HC, but didn't get him and hired Orgeron instead.
Out of spite from being spurned, LSU fans took to ridiculing Herman's tenure at Texas to make themselves feel better for "settling" for their, at-best, third choice for the job.
Herman flamed out as a head coach, but had a couple good years including a BCS Bowl win. Orgeron also flamed out as a head coach, but had a couple good years, including a Natty and a BCS Bowl win.
It is entirely plausible that Herman is not cut out to be a head coach, but would be a very competent Offensive Coordinator. This seems like a great hire on paper, but we'll have to wait and see if it works out.

It's almost like you can like a guy as a coordinator but not a head coach. I understand that this is a super complex idea that some won't grasp.

Very true. However, a lot of his problems were masked by the fact that he had 3 athletes at QB that were all good enough to make it to the NFL,

IF Herman is the new OC, he'll have those kinds of athletes as well.
And, he did really well at Houston.
Its altogether possible that he is a good to great OC and not a good enough head coach for a place like Texas. Both things can be true at the same time.
We'll see. He might not even be going to LSU. If he is, I think there's a good chance he'll be successful.

I can’t help but have this feeling that BK is going to be a disaster.
LSU is a great program
BK is a winning coach
I just think this is an odd match and got a feeling he isn’t going to fit in there. Oh and Herman. Oh goodness. Just another part of the puzzle that don’t fit.
