Actually he crapped the bed at the Olympic Trials and didn't make the team in spite of being a heavy favorite. Still the kid won a lot for A&M so that's cool.
Odd move for a guy to decide to leave in his Senior year but clearly he is chasing a ring. Texas has always been a Swimming school so good for them I guess. I was good friends with Josh Davis in HS before he went on to Texas and then won a bunch of medals.

I know material is a little light in week 0, but couldn't you find anything other than swimming.

He was seeded 2 in his best event, behind the current wr holder and at the time defending gold medalist, Ryan Murphy. He went 0.03 slower than his best time ever, was 0.29 away from making the team. That's not exactly shitting the bed nor being a heavy favorite.

How many individual medals did he win? 40% of those relay medals were as a prelims swimmer. That means not even top 4 at trials... dude you were saying shite the bed finished 3rd, but because it's a stroke and not free, no relays. I will acknowledge Josh finished top 2 at trials, twice, in the 200 free. To pretend he was that much better is a fallacy. We're talking comparing 4th to like 10th in the world. The gap between peak Josh and Shane today is that thin, Josh just happened to be good at a relay friendly stroke. That's it. Now I'm gonna feel bad for talking down on a guy like Josh or even worse, quasi defending a former Aggie

True. I've talked to many Aggies who wished they had gone to Texas. They tell me they were not alone. When they were in college at A&M, a large share of the students cheered for Texas but had to do so silently to avoid persecution.

My Austin friends have been saying for years that everybody gets into Texas aTm, and nobody gets into Texas?
aTm is a good school, just appears to be easier to get into

He was expected to make the team and didn't. I was responding to the guy who said that Texas was going to be able to claim the Medals he won at the Olympics. I don't wish him ill will and appreciate he won a lot at A&M. I don't follow swimming closely.
Josh is a good guy and was very bright. Was just happy for him he accomplished his dream.

I feel comfortable talking down about Josh lol
When I was in middle school my club coach made us go to a clinic Josh was hosting and he spent half of the time talking about how awesome he was because of all of the relay bronze medals he had, then had us do a bunch of drills that were more basic than the stuff our coach already had us doing.
We made fun of him for the entire trip just because of how hard he was trying to inflate his ego. Mad props for him being able to do something I wasn’t even close to being able to do, I couldn’t even quite get trials times, but I value people’s ability to be humble while talented, and he seemed to lack that.

Essentially the only difference is you have to be Top 6% to get Auto accept into Texas and Top 10% for A&M. Most kids who can get into A&M are also able to get into Texas. Part of it is A&M has gotten a lot bigger than Texas in recent years, Texas has stayed at 50k while A&M is now over 65k.
There isn't some massive gap between the two academically and it really depends on your major as well, the schools have very different missions. Both are excellent Engineering schools with different emphasis. Both are excellent Business schools. Texas is very strong in Liberal Arts, Education, Computer Science (which is not part of Engineering), etc. A&M is very strong in the Ag school, Construction Science, etc. Aggie grads make more than Texas Grads and A&M has a larger research spend than Texas. As often noted here Texas and A&M are 1,2 in the country in Endowment among Public schools but Texas has to share theirs with more satellites (UTD, UTSA, the Med Schools in Dallas and Houston, etc) making the dollars per student pretty close.
Both are great schools. It's more similar to an Auburn/Alabama, USC/Clemson, UGA/Georgia Tech scenario but it's a bit unusual because both A&M and Texas are Land Grant Schools with a heavy research emphasis, they just emphasize different things for the most part.

If you can spell your name on the A&M application, they'll take you.

Cool, Thanks for the summary

I know of a few dozen kids with GPA's above a 3.7 from good HS's in Texas that can't get into A&M. I know one who was just outside the Top 10%, had over 20 hours of college credit, and had a 1320 on her SAT.
Just sling your BS though, my guess is you are probably a tshirt fan that went to Texas State like most loud mouth sips. People who actually graduated from Texas tend to be pretty respectful of A&M academically.

That’s a good summary.
Texas is a bit higher in the rankings, but A&M is better at pumping out STEM workers. As mentioned, UT is better for liberal arts majors and future lawyers. Although A&M does have a law school now, it’s still relatively new and I would assume not nearly as sought after, at least right now.

He's a well established troll, just ignore him. Most everyone else is learning to.
I would honestly be surprised to find out he was older than 17.

I was born in '89. Not to make you feel old, just a funny coincidence.

That’s funny, because most Aggies I talked to say they were glad they decided to go to A&M because they didn’t want to become a limp-wristed hippie who would rather sit on a dildo than support America.
See? I can make blanket generalizations too. This is fun.
