They need the the administration, the AD, the fan support and the coaching to really make an impact in football.

Yes it needs to be a better league top to bottom

It doesn't help that these SEC schools keep making the wrong hires and are being lapped in the race.

They could at least be like a Stanford. High academics and perennial average team that makes some noise a few times a decade. There's no reason they can't be competitive against the likes of Kentucky, Mizzou, SC, and Tennessee.

They were a long time ago; I suppose they could manage a great season here and there but to be elite would mean becoming VERY lax in their enrollment compared to how they are now.

I just don't see that happening.

Not really. Stanford got it going because they have such a global reputation that they can essentially monopolize the high-end students in the elite football prospect pool. They get first choice, basically, and then Vandy, Northwestern, Duke, etc. work with what’s left.

It's not like their roster is filled with aerospace engineering bruisers. The end goal is to get players of draftable talent; not research lab talent. Stanford isn't decent because they're academically superior. They're decent because they actually have some focus on football. Stanford pays Shaw almost double what Vandy was paying Mason.

In another league, maybe. In the SEC, no way it's going to happen. Their academics standards are just too high and they're not willing to bend, which is admirable. The SEC is all about getting the best athletes and winning NCs and the reality is most of them aren't academic scholars!

When has Stanford or Wisconsin ever been elite. Really good yes. But they don’t come to mind when I think elite

Wisconsin has won six big 10 titles since 1993. No they aren't elite but I would put them in the pretty good category.

Vandy is a great school, but it isn’t in Stanford’s tier.

They’re leaps and bounds above the rest of the SEC
