Can Vandy be elite?

Let’s play hypotheticals for a minute. Say Vanderbilt as an institution decided to commit big money & resources into football. They go out and hire a big name coach and begin the process of modernizing their facilities. As a Coach if you have the financial backing, would it be a hard sell to get elite recruits across the country to come there?
It’s Nashville, it’s real deal academics and as a player, you’d get to compete against the best of the best in the SEC. can this actually be done if the above boxes were checked first? I think given the right resources and leaders, they could be a Baylor or TCU maybe a poor man’s Notre Dame minus the history obviously.

No, the football elite are already decided and it’s damn near impossible to break into the group.

Wouldn’t it be fun to see some “new bloods” like mizzou and Vandy come out of no where and start kicking arse? I get sick of SEC haters saying it’s a top heavy league.

Well they've been to nine bowl games in their history and their last conference title was nearly 100 years ago. So I'm going to say, no, they cannot be elite.

Mizzou has been to the SEC title game twice since they entered the league. There are several teams that haven't been to it once since it started in 1992.

Yes of course. They have more money than any of the rest of us...this is how they choose to operate. And they actually enforce their academic admissions standards for their atheletes. God bless em for it. Listening to some of 4hese postgame interviews....I mean cmon people...what are we doing.

Anyone who commits enough money and resources can become elite. Vandy has shown no desire to do either in more than 130 years of playing football.

Define elite for vandy. Could they compete for a CFP spot in your scenario.....no. Could they with a perfect storm of conditions be in the hunt for the east....meh possibly. That would take changing the culture of the entire university, a historic hire, a string of top recruiting classes and a down year for the East...but I guess its technically feasible.

Can they? Yes. Anyone can.
It is going to hundreds of millions to catch everything up. Plus they need to do things to bring in alumni and some local fans in Nashville.
The #1 issue in any team being elite is the guy running the show. They need to find a coach that will build them up and stay. Stay = Overpay by a lot. That is the hardest thing anyone can do. Even the great teams become not good when their golden goose leaves. See UT. They've been searching for the last couple of decades. USC was a mini-dynasty in the early 00s. They've been above average to pretty good since. 05 national champs fired their guy and they've been losers even with every advantage possible. Haven't found the next Pete. Look at Bama pre Saban. Look at OU pre-Stoops & Lincoln. And it goes on and on. Look who's cracked the elite company - Clemson. #1 reason by far is Dabo. UO almost did it, but then fell off when Chip went to the NFL.

They will always struggle getting elite d linemen. Those guys typically have lower gpas and test scores

Wisconsin has done alright and they are one of the few schools who doesn't lower their academic requirements for football recruits...

Such a shame. I’m not gonna use the world “sleeping giant” like a Texas or Michigan but they’re definitely a hidden Gem that has a high ceiling. High being a NY6 bowl maybe a SECCG appearance that sort of thing.

Same goes for Northwestern and Stanford. It can be done. I’d much rather play in Nashville and compete against Georgia and Florida yearly than those places

He drops 500M for a new stadium.
He drops another 100M for new football facilities.
He develops a network to "help out" recruits like all the big boys have. Somehow their Amazon Account gets 1,000,000 in credits overnight.
Then he gives Dabo 20 M a year for 10 years plus another 10 M a year for coordinators.
How many titles do they have by 2030? I say at least 2, maybe more.

Not without a complete overhaul of how their university operates, and that won’t (and shouldn’t) happen.
